Mr. Gardner was asked to attend a part of the meeting. Dr. McLain opened the meeting with prayer. 1. 4205 - STAiF A'ETBERS WHO LEFT IÍIT.:L HOUSE: ~I~.', l''lanucher reported that Miss Jacoby, Mr. & Mrs._ Aly, and Dr. Husain: and family left Hill House. 1. 4206 - RE-OPENīNG OF A.U.C. CLASSES: hr. Hanna Rizk has reported that there had been no indication from the Ministry of Education as to a possible date for the re-opening of schools. The situation has not yet been cleared up and the array is still occupying many school premises. It has been decided by the Council that this is not a favorable moment for quick re-opening, and the question was tabled for next Wedne sday 1. 4207 - PROBLEM OF THE GENERAL CERTIFICATE Member. s of the Council expressed OF EDUCATION AND FOREIGN SCHOOLS the feeling that some British and IM EGYPT: French schools in Egypt might not re-open, that the G.C.E. examina-tions might not be held in Egypt any more, and that a number of parents have already called at the University asking if something could be done for their children who were enrolled in the upper classes of the English or French schools. The Council asked. the Committee on Interim Education Program to study: a - the advisability of establishing a pre-freshman class et A.U.C. b - the possibility of setting up a substitution entrance device for the G.C.E. and the French Baccalaureat and to report to the Council, 4208 - REPORT ON THE EVACUATED PART I NTS: Mr. Gardner reported that his committee had checked on apart-ments evacuated by the Faculty and had visited all the places except those at ilI. adi, In most of there the keys were in the hands of the servants. The Council decided the following: a -- To pay rents and servants for the month of November, charging the Faculty member concerned. b - To cable the Faculty in Geneva asking for information regarding what we should do after November, in case they are not back„ c - To give Mr, Gardner the power to act in individual cases with reference to rent, servant wages, etc. d - To ask. -Messrs. Conn and Proctor for their instructions concerning the change of their apartments. e - Unless we hear from the Faculty member to the contrary,, the University will hold the keys of the apartments from which we feel responsible. The servants, if necessary, will be instructed to clean the apartments at suitable intervals, 1. 4209 - THE SECURITY SCHEME: No change in the general security scheme of the University was decided upon. 1
