149 I. COLLEGE OF ARTS AND SCIENCES The College, during 1940-41, has been under the direction and executive leadership of Mr. Worth Howard, Acting Dean, in the absence of Dean Badeau. I wish to pay a high tribute to the efficiency and skill with which he has carried the trying duties of substituting in so exacting a position. His calm and judicial spirit, ht forbearance and restraint, his uniformly courteous speech and manner, added to a capacity for details and the gift of enlisting the hearty cooperation of his associates have contributed greatly to making the year one of outstanding success in the operation of the College as a whole.
