Highland was her greatest love, 20 years, she joined the Dorothy Cox Ballet find performed on the southern couver Island with that company for a few years, eption honoring the young couple was^held Since being married she has taught many ' " groups and put on many dance reviews. Lewis and Alice were Ward dance directors the Taylor Stake for 4 years travelling to different towns between Magrath and Coutts, were in charge of Green & Gold Balls. In 1967 Lewis and Alice were in charge of dance for the special program put on by the conraunity. One Hundred fifty dancers perform­ed dances taught by Lewis and Alice ranging iron the early 1900's to the year 1967. In 1973 Alice formed the Magrath MacGregor back and but after School of end of Van- The weather was crisp, sunny and beautiful in Seattle, Washington on the morning of Friday, December 16, 1988 when Kristi, daughter of Dan and DeAnne Atwood of Magrath, Alberta, and Reese, son of Fran and Sylvia Riggin of Spokane', Washington were married for time and all eternity in the Seattle Temple. The weather was still lovely Saturday evening, December 17th when a Calling Rec- at the new Foothills Chapel in Spokane, hosted by the groom's parents. The weather was much colder and very snowy on Tuesday evening, December 20th when a reception was held in Magrath at the new Senior Citizens Centre hosted by the bride's parents. Many friends and relatives were in attendance at both receptions, helping make this time for Kristi and _ Thanks to Highlanders with this group putting on a Ceilidh them well; who _?.ch year which became a tradition in Magrath. The first thing Alice says that she can u.-ar remember is her father playing the violin -.-nils she sat at his feet. He used to dance the Irish Jig with her and play for her to practise her dancing. She has won awards for dance but says heir greatest award was to see how little girls with two left feet could be molded into beauti­ful, graceful dancers - and says she has ; dozens of these. Many going on to teach < -'■’ves. u.. music has been her life, i fays she wont completely retire until she can't move, and thanks all who have ever supp­orted her in any way. To the parents of those now who have onildren taking Highland, because Alice is re­tiring, Highland Dance will NOT finish. H 1 Mr. Joseph Calvin (Cal) Alston, beloved husband of Mrs. Doreen Alston of Magrath, passed Away January 9, 1989 at the age of 64 years. Cal was bom on December 5th, 1924 in Magrath, the eldest son of Joseph and Norma Alston. He attended school in Magrath. At the age of 18 he enlisted in the R.C.N.V.R. in World War 11 as a coder. Upon his re­turn he farmed and later became postmaster, a position he held for 30 years. Cal married Doreen Harker on September 28, 1949 in the Alberta Temple. He loved sports as a participant, coach and support­er. He served 15 years on Town Council. He was a dedicated member of the L.D.S. Church. He is survived by his loving wife Doreen and his children Wade (Gloria) Alston of Ottawa,,Diane (Klaus) Frerizel ' of Lacombe, Bums (Karen) Alston of Mag­rath, Marianne (Terry) Roberts of Coal­dale, Mona (Don) Mehew of Welling, Karen (Darrel) Chipman of Magrath; 11 grand­sons and 12 granddaughters; two brothers Douglas (Janet) Alston of Lethbridge, Tyler (Gloria) Alston of Magrath; two sisters Beulah Holst of Orem, Hope Alston of Calgary; numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral Services were held Thursday afternoon, January 12th with Bishop Wes Balderson officiating. Alma Davies was organist for the service. Memorial book attendants were Arana Lyle, Jane Romeril, Sue Alston and Jody Alston. The family prayer was offered by Pres. Tyler Alston. The opening hymn "Lord I Would Foll­ow Thee* was sung by L.B. Tanner accomp­anied by Vinessa Hamilton. Invocation was offered by Bums Alston. Bishop Wes Balderson paid fitting tribute to Cal followed by a piano medley of Cal's favorite music by Alma Davies. Speaker for the service was Reed' Coleman. Dan Davies sang as the clos­ing hymn "I Believe in Christ" accomp­anied by Alma Davies. Wade Alston offered the benediciton. Pallbearers were Wade Alston, Bums Alston, Klaus Frenzel, Terry Roberts, Don Mehew, Darrel Chipman. Interment took place in the Magrath Cemetery with Doug Alston offering the graveside dedication. The family of the late Cal Alston wish to express our gratitude to the people of the town and district for the many kindnesses shown us. It is wonderful to be part of such a caring community. Thank you. Doreen and family. NOVICE HOCKEY NEWS An exciting exhibition game was held January 14 when Lethbridge Bulldogs chall­enged Magrath Novice on their home ice. At the end of the 2nd period the score was tied 2-2 with Loren McKelvey scoring both goals. With 3 minutes left in the 3rd period Lethbridge scored a third goal. With 1 minute left Justin Harker tied the score. Dustin Godionton had 2 assists. It was an incredible team effort. Keep it up guys!! A new Ward of the Magrath L.D.S. Church came into being Sunday and other Ward Bishoprics were revised at special services held in the Magrath LDS Stake Centre, January 15th, 1989. First Ward Bishop is Greg Strong with 1st Councillor James Anderson, 2nd Connci 11- or DeVar Dahl. Meetings - 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Second Ward Bishop is Watson Ririe. 1st Councillor - Ricks Smith, 2nd Councillor James Toone. Lloyd Ririe, beloved husband of the late Cleo Jensen Ririe, passed away in Minneapolis Minn, on Monday, January 16th. He was 84 years of age. He was born in Magrath on July 10, 1904. He spent the latter part of his lifetime in Provo, Utah and at the time pf his passing was with his daughter Barbara in Minneapolis. Predeceased by his loving wife Cleo, a son Roger and two grandchildren, he is sur­vived by one daughter Barbara (Alan) Anderson of Minneapolis; two sons Morgan (Jean) Ririe of Santa Rosa, California arid Paul (Phyllis) Ririe of Salt Lake City; a daughter-in-law Billie Rae Ririe; 21 grandchildren; four sisters Olive Bradshaw of Cardston, Velma Godfrey of Provo, Utah; Prudence Poulsen of Lethbridge and Juliadean Bondy of Magrath, many nieces and nephews. A Family Service will be held in Magrath, tentatively Saturday, January 21st, 1989 with Bishop Watson Ririe officiating. Mr. Jack Ady, M.L.A. will be at the Magrath Town Hall, Tuesday, January 24th from 9 a.m. to 12 o'clock noon for anyone wishing to see him. The Magrath All Star team narrowly defeat­ed the Australian Adelaide Junior College Men's Basketball team by a 95-92 score. The proceeds from the game added over $500 more to the Tom Karren Gymnasium Fund. Smiles I'M FINE There's nothing whatever the matter with me, I'm just as healthy as I can be.
