Anyone wishing to donate $10.00 to $50.00 can, have a heart with your name on it, placed on the Bulletin Board by the Emergency Room at the hospital for the months of January and February. If you wish to donate in an excess of $100.00, you will have an engraved placque placed permanently on the Donation Board at the hospital. Money received will be spent on hospital equipment to improve patient care. If there ate any interested individuals, or groups, who would like to accept our challenge, we encourage you. Magrath Hospital Staff. I This year for the first time, the Magrath School and P.T.A. are sponsoring the Magrath School Festival. It is for all students from Grades 1 to 12 who wish to enter amateur school vocal solos or Amateur speech. If you don't have a speech or vocal teacher, ycu are eligible to enter. We plan to give medallions to the winners in each class. $3.00 per individual entry. Deadline January 30th for entries. Festival takes place in Magrath on March 9th. Contact the school for further details. ADULT EDUCATION There are still a few openings for the FITNESS CLASS which will be starting February 5th. Also the LCW IMPACT AEROBIC CLASS is geared to those who would like to get start­ed or those who don't want lots of jumping, etc. This class is a new look for Aerobics. It was a really good and exciting game with our kids coning out on top 3-2. Scoring were: Jimmy Balderson - 2 goals; Denver Wetheralt - 1 goal & 1 assist. Cody Ririe - 1 assist. Brian Bullock did an outstanding "job in goal. On Saturday, January 13th, early in the morning Rod's Tadpoles travelled to Warner and came up victorious 7-0. Darren Severs opened the scoring with his first goal ever. Rhonda Strate - 1 goal; Joshua Bour-elle - 1 goal; Denver Wetheralt - 1 goal, 1 assist; Braedon Balderson with a hat trick - 3 goals. 1 assist going to Stan Ringuette and Josh Heggie. Getting the shut out for Magrath was Dustin Ririe. ALBERTA STARS- no, it's not a sport team - it is ALBERTA SHOCK TRAUMA AIR RESCUE SOCIETY - who is responsible for flying (by helicopter) emergency patients - whether sickness or accident - to a Calgary hospital. This service was used three times from Mag­rath in the last year. . All personnel, except the pilot, are volunteers, so the pilot's fee and the fuel needed are the only expense. This is not government sponsored but depends on donations. - The Magrath Hospital Auxiliary is do­nating $100.00 and challenges any individ­uals or organizations to meet this chall­enge. Forty seven people attended. The meeting was called to order, minutes were read and adopted. The Treasurer's report showed up until January 4/90 there were only 8 paid members. Our bank account boasts $73. Jacquie Bly, Volunteer Committee Chair­person, gave her report. There are many ways parents or those in the ccranunity can be in­volved. It is critical for volunteers to be dependable. Neil Nordquist, Principal, gave an up­date on school construction. A picture of Mr. Magrath (the man for whom the town was named) will be hung in the school. New Business: 1. Literacy Year - the Hone & School will sponsor a Book Fair Febnary 7th, 8th, 9th. A new reading program sponsored oy the Home & School will be introduced by next September if the School staff approves. 2. Teacher Appreciation Week - February 11th - 17th. Various ideas will be im­plemented for Teacher recognition. 3. Family Portraits - will be offered for $10.00 later this spring. 4. Family Day - members felt we should be; home with our families instead of attend­ing a celebration. Old Business: Sex Education will be offer­ed to those who wish it to be taught to their children. No other course may be offered except. Theme V. It is up to the school to secure permission from each parent to teach their child. Guest Speaker - Carol Bullock, from Leth­bridge, gave a history on Sex Education in Lethbridge as well as her own personal misgivings. " MAGRATH GENERAL HOSPITAL NEWS The Magrath General Hospital Board and Staff would like to thank the Hospital Aux­iliary for their recent donation towards equipment. Their continued support over the years is appreciated. It is also appreciated that the Lions Club is going to do some fund-raising to help us with equipment, and the Magrath Treasury Branch recently made a donation. More people are starting to donate to the Hospital. There are many rural hosp­itals in the province that have donations of $60,000 - $100,000 per year and large cash reserves they draw interest from. It has been difficult to purchase needed equipment when we do not have cash deposits and our donations total about $3,000 per year, so it is encouraging to see the re-' cent support from the community. As Hospital Board and Staff, we want to provide the best care possible, and your donations and encouragement certainly help towards this end. Thank you. URGENT . For a small town we are so extremely fortunate to have such a beautiful ice facility right on our front door step. Please.....if you are interested in the continuation of the Magrath Figure Skat­ing Club, come to our meeting on WEDNES­DAY, JANUARY 24th AT 7 P.M. AT THE ARENA. I will not be able to continue on the Executive of the club for the 90/91 season. Thusly, we will be having elect­ions for the next year as well as planning the 4th Annual Ice Carnival - being held on Monday, March 12th (we hope). We are getting sene really good skaters who have worked hard these past few years. It would be a shame to have to drive them to Lethbridge or Raymond for lessons. TOWN OF MAGRATH NEWS The Mayor and Council of the Town of Magrath, on behalf of all citizens, would like to congratulate our Minor Hockey tears for their success in recent tournaments: PeeWee A’s for third place in Salt Lake and the Atom A’s for winn­ing 1st place in Lethbridge. EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY Town of Magrath Recreateon Facility Operator/Director The Town is seeking a self motivated individual to operate, maintain, and schedule the Recreational Facilities in Town. The job requires some recreation director duties as well but emphasis is on facility operation. The applicants should have good public relat­ions and communications skills. Mr. Edward Morris Wilson, beloved husband of Mrs. Mona Wilson of Magrath passed away at the Lethbridge Regional Hospital on Friday, January 12, 1990 at the age of 83 years. Mr. Wilson was bom in North Dakota in 1907. He came with his family to Canada in 1911 and had resided at points in Alberta. In 1930 he married Mona Brennan and in 1936 moved to Sudbury, Ontario and was employed with INCO as a carpenter, retiring in 1972. He moved to Magrath in 1986. Besides his loving wife, Mona, Mr. Wilson is survived by two sons and daughters- in-law Douglas and Gail of Midland, Ontario and Donald and Margaret of Magrath; two daugh­ters and sons-in-law Jane and Pat Armstrong of Port McNichol, Ontario and Donna and Ken Randall of North Bay, Ontario. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren, six great grand­children; two brothers and three sisters. Funeral services will be held in the Magrath L.D.S. Stake Chapel this Thursday afternoon, January 18, 1990 at 2 p.m. with Bishop Watson Ririe officiating. Interment will follow in the Magrath Cemetery. The local group played very well coming up short in a 13-7 loss.
