Kevin donated all th necessary electrical components and materials to make our building functional. He in­stalled underground services, wiring, lights and outlets for us. Mr. James Elton Blumell, beloved husband of Mrs. Mary Margaret (Ririe) Blumell of Mag­rath, passed away suddenly at his home on Mon­day, April 15, 1991 at the age of 73 years. Born in Magrath on May 24, 1917, the late Jim Blumell was raised in Magrath and received his teaching certificate from normal school in Calgary. He later received his Bachelor of Science degree and a Master of Education degree. He taught school for 48 years beginning in a one room school at Lehi, north of Magrath. He then taught 24 years in Magrath, four years in Cessford, 10 years as principal in Raymond and 10 years at the Lethbridge Community College. Jim was a very active community worker, was very active in the L.D.S. Church. He served in the R.C.A.F. in the Second World War. He was a member of the Rod and Gun Club, was an active member of the Magrath Lions Club for 10 years. Jim coached basketball both high school and Senior Mens, and served as President of the Raymond Minor Baseball Assoc­iation for a number of years. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his loving wife Mary Margaret, two sons: David (Merle) of Rosemary, Jim (Penny) of Taber; three daughters: Marina Adams of Orem, Utah, Anne Wolsey of Orem, Utah and Sharon (Brian) Stallard of Albuquerque, New Mexico; 24 grandchildren; one great grand­child; three brothers: Emerson (Lois) Blumell, Russell (Frances) Blumell both of Magrath; Gordon (Mae) Blumell of Calgary; two sisters Alice (Wendel) Davies of Penticton, B.C. and Jean Blumell. of Calgary. He was predeceased by his parents and one brother Jasper. Funeral services were held in the Magrath L.D.S. Stake Chapel with Bishop Greg Strong officiating. The family prayer was offered by Watson Ririe. Alma Davies presided at the organ for the prelude and postlude music. Opening hymn "Lead Me Gently Home" was a vocal trio sung by Doreen Holland, Shirley Jensen and Vinnie Jensen accompanied by Renee Nordquist. Sharon Stallard offered the invo­cation. Anne Wolsey gave the biography of her father followed by a piano medley of favorite songs of Jims by Eva Kay Coppieters. Marina Adams paid fitting tribute to her father and the grandchildren then sang "A Child's Prayer" led by Anne Wolsey. Speaker for the service was David Blumell who again spoke of the devotion his father had for his wife and family and his church and community. Cam Atwood sang "The Test accomp­anied by Gwen Coleman. Cal Merkley offered the benediction. Postlude was a vocal solo "Flow Gently Sweet Afton" by Dan Davies acc­ompanied by Alma Davies. Honourary Pallbearers were grandsons Mathew Blumell, Reuben Wolsey, Reid Blumell, Andrew Stallard, Peter Stallard, Ian Dunn and Adam Stallard. Active Pallbearers were Allen West, James A. Ririe, Wesley Rice, Wendel Davies, Watson Ririe and Eric Dunn. Interment took place in the Magrath Cem­etery with Emerson Blumell dedicating the grave. Beatrice Leona Thompson, beloved wife of the late Ralph Shultz Thompson, formerly of Spring Coulee, passed away at Grandview Nursing Horae in Cardston on Friday, April 19, 1991 at the age of 93 years. Leona is the beloved mother of Bill and Eva Thompson and beloved grandmother of Linda (Verdell) Saxton, Michael (Carol) Thompson, Kendall (Janet) Thompson and Cheryl Meadows. She is also survived by 15 great grandchildren and one sister, Roberta Lilly of Tillamook, Oregon. A long time resident of the Spring Coulee district, Leona took an active part in the church and community affairs, being particularly interested in the young people. She taught Sunday School and youth groups there for many years. Always interested in education, Leona was a valued member of the Lethbridge Mathesis Club. During her last two years she compiled a comprehensive history of the Spring Coulee district, a fitting end to a busy and productive life. Leona will be remembered by all as a person of integrity who cared deeply for others and was constantly striving to im­prove herself. She was an example to all who knew her. The funeral service was held on Tues­day, April 23, 1991 in Martin Bros. Memor­ial Chapel with Reverend Douglas Cowan Officiating assisted by Mary Yvonne Hohm. Interment followed in Mountain View cemetery, family plot. • •••••••• MAGRATH GENERAL HOSPITAL Magrath General Hospital has a posi­tion available for the summer under the STEP Program. This position is for a groundskeeper and the duties would be as follows: Maintain 7 acres of grounds at the Hospital which includes mowing grass, water­ing, spraying for weeds, maintaining flower beds, removal of garbage and some equipment maintenance. Experience in operating of lawn equipment or small farm equipment is an asset. The dates for this position are May 6 to August 31, 1991. Magrath School Library. 5TH ANNUAL TATOO Sc SUNSET CEREMONY The General Stewart Branch No. 4 of the Royal Canadian Legion proudly announce the presentation of the Fifth Annual Tattoo and Sunset Ceremony to be held in the Lethbridge Sportplex on Saturday, May 4th at 7:00 p.m. The colourful spectacular will feature exciting marching performances by such groups as Princess Patricia's Canadian light Infant­ry Band, the Air Command Band of Winnipeg, and, of course, our own "Spirit of Alberta" Marching Band. The finale of the program will be a musical presentation which includes the five marching bands, as well as the massed pipes and drums from five of the top pipe bands from Alberta and Manitoba. Mr. Chatwin, Magrath School's Bandmaster, will again be serving as musical director, and reports this year's show will provide just under two hours of colourful and excit­ing music and military precision, including a flashy performance of Magrath's Spirit of Alberta Band and Flag Girls.
