White only What a memorable evening it was for Magrath residents attending the 4th Annual Royal Canadian Legion Tatoo and Sunset Ceremony at the Lehbridge Sports-plex Saturday evening. There were over 350 musicians from such centres as St. Albert, Cranbrook, Calgary, Medicine Hat, Lethbridge and Magrath taking part in the three hour event. We are sure Jimi and Irene Ririe were bursting with pride as their son-in­law, Lt. Col. Ray R. Romses, C.D. Commanding Officer, First Battalion, Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry, Canadian Forces, Base, Calgary (the Regiment being honored this year) was the Reviewing Officer. Lt. Col. Rcmses was accompanied by his wife Carol. We were very proud of Jerry Chatwin, Director of Music for the evening, who conducted the Massed Brass, Pipes and Drums in the opening ceremony. Attired in colorful new uniforms, the "Spirit, of Alberta" Magrath High School Band, Flag and Bugle Corps performances, under the direction of Jerry Chatwin, was truly a thrill and a delight to view as was the presentation of the young ladies Color Guard under the choreog­raphy of Elizabeth Strong assisted by Nicki Bogdan and Sarah Strong. The closing finale of Massed Bands led by Mr. Chatwin brought to a conclusion an evening that will stay long in the hearts and minds of those attending, especially the people frcm Magrath. Clark and Carol Dainard are pleased to announce the forthcoming marriage of their son R. Christopher (Chris) Dainard to Berna­dette Kaupp, daughter of August and Anne Kaupp of Raymond. They will be united together- on Satur­day, May 19, 1990 in Raymond. Attending the wedding are many close friends and family including Chris' older brother Kevin, his wife Gwendy and two daughters Candice, and newly arrived granddaughter Winter of California, also frcm Provo, Utah, Chris' sister Julie. ...... Phone Bill at 758­6814. at late the A resident of Magrath for a number of years, Mrs. Dorothy McDowell Russell, passed away in Lethbridge Thursday, May 3, 1990 the age of 82 years, beloved wife of the Alfred Russell. Born in Ontario on February 9, 1908, former Dorothy Miller moved to Strome, Albeta where she’was raised and educated. In 1956 she moved to Magrath and later moved to Leth­bridge where she resided until her passing. She is survived by three daughters; one step daughter, seven grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; as well as step grand­children and great grandchildren; one brother; numerous nieces and nephews as well as very dear friends Mrs. Deanna (Bob) Hamilton of Lethbridge and Mrs. Sue Kado of Magrath. Mrs. Russell was predeceased by her first husband James McDowell in 1969; her second husband Alfred Russell on April 6, 1990; one sister and one brother. Stake Centre Tuesday, May 1, 1990 with Bishop Wes Balderson officiating. The family prayer was offered by Clyde Dudley., Alma Davies presided at the organ for the prelude music and accompanied Dan Davies who sang " 0 My Father" for the opening hymn. Invocation was offered by George Pomerleau. Speaker for the service was Keith Dudley. A vocal duet "I Am A Child of God* was sung by Tiffany Hatch and Jennifer Pomerleau. Closing remarks were given by Bishop Balderson followed by the closing hymn which was a medley of Primary Songs sung by Sister and Cousins. Ed Hatch offered the benediction. Pallbearers were Jim Moore, Kim Hatch, Bryon Hatch and Glen Hatch. Interment took place in the Magrath Cem­etery with Thomas D. Hatch dedicating the Grave. The Alberta Motor Association, in co­operation with Transport Canada, is warning consumers of a safety-related defect involv­ing the popular Fisher-Price Child Car Seat. The units have a defect in the metal tongue which secures the shield to the child rest­raint. Crash-testing carried out by Fisher­Price revealed the tongue could break in a moderate to severe collision, increasing the. risk of injury to a child. Two thousand defective units have been sold across Canada. Anyone owning a Fisher­Price Child Car Seat (Model 9102) should check the date of manufacture stamped on the bottom of the instruction label located on the back of the car seat. If the seat was built between February 5 and March 24 1990, the owner should call Fisher-Price toll free at 1-800-327-9980 to request a free modification kit. NEWS FROM THE CHINOOK HEALTH DEPT. Edmonton, Alberta.... Alberta Health Minister Nancy Betkowski has announced the implementation of a province wide immunization awareness campaign. In making the announcement, Mrs. Bet­kowski said, "I am concerned about the number of parents who are not fully in­formed about the benefits of immunization and the dangers of communicable disease. This canpaign will help educate those parents and will hopefully encourage them to have their children immunized". "The Alberta Children's Immunization Program provides free vaccines against a number of serious diseases such as Whooping Cough and Measles" said Mrs. Betkowski. "By taking advantage of this free service parents can help their children have happy and healthy lives. A full series of immunizations is the best way to protect Alberta's children and to help prevent ser­ious outbreaks of these communicable dis­eases ". Failure to do so will result in all dogs running at large, barking excessively and other violations will be impounded and applicable costs and fines charged to the owners. Unpaid voluntary fines will be processed through the Provincial Court system. All provisions of the By-Law will be enforced including licensing, running at large, barking, no more than 2 dogs per household, etc. Full co-operation and compliance by all dogowners would make life a lot more pleasant for everyone.
