CHINOOK HEALTH UNIT NEWS We wish to express our appreciation to those who helped with Canada Health Days, held on May 13/91, especially to the Garden City Senior Citizens Association for the use of their building; to the Magrath Hospital for their participation and to Christine Poss, District Home Economist from Cardston. NEWS The May meeting was held on the 15th of May at the home of Irene Gruninger. Items from the meeting included reports from the C.W.L. Convention attended by Irene Gruninger and Lydia Brunner. Re­minder that the Rosary is being said before Mass during the month of May. Memberships are now due. Motions made and passed at the meeting included donating $50.00 to Harbour House in Lethbridge and $100 to the S.T.A.R.S. Ambulance. The next meeting will be held on the first Wednesday of June. Keep an eye out for the location in upcoming information. Mrs. Isabel "R" Bennett of Spring Coulee, beloved wife of the late John Ray Bennett, passed away suddenly near Magrath on Friday, May 17th, 1991 as the result of a traffic accident. She was 86 years of age. Isabel was born on March 26, 1905 at Cardston, fifth in a family of 10. She married Ray Bennett in 1930 and lived on the family farm south of Spring Coulee until her passing. Ray passed away on November 19, 1981. She leaves to cherish her memory one daughter Corinne (Jack) Chipman of Miss­oula, five sons Don (Cathy) of Edmonton, Bill (Carol) of Los Angeles, Calif., Gerald (Shirley) of Spring Coulee, Richard (Kristi) of Raymond and Brian (Alice) of St. Albert. She is also survived by 35 grandchrildren and 33 great grandchildren; three sisters Louella Smith of Cardston, Anne Green of Lethbridge and Mary McKenna of Nanaimo, B.C.; two brothers J. Owen (Carol) Steed of Lethbridge and Max (Doris) Steed of Washington. Isabel will always be remembered for her love for her family, her gift of music which she willing shared and her cheerful spirit. She was an active member of the L.D.S. Church. Funeral Services were held in the Magrath L.D.S. Stake Centre Tuesday , May 21st with President Dan Baker officiating, The family prayer was offered by William Bennett. Attending the Memorial Registers were Bertha Bennett, Lottie Harker, Mary Nelson and LVaun Thompson. Alma Davies was organist for the serv­ice. The opening hymn was "I Am A Child Of God" sung by the grandchildren and accompan­ied by Carolyn Bennett. Corinne Chipman offered the invocation. Richard Bennett gave the biography of his mother followed by a piano solo Chopin's "Nocturne" by Barbara Nysetvold. Gerald Bennett paid fitting tribute to his mother and speaker for the service was son Brian Bennett. The closing hymn was a vocal solo "The Test" sung by Cam Atwood. The benediction was offered by Jack Chipman. Honourary Pallbearers were Rand Bennett, Alen Bennett, Dean Bennett, Gordon Chipman, Jim Sennett, John Bennett, Michael Bennett, Timothy Bennett, Dan Bennett, David Bennett, Ricky Bennett and Jonathan Bennett. Active Pallbearers were Tom Bennett, Daryl Chipman, Mark Bennett, Robert Bennett, Alan Chipman and Jared Bennett. Interment took place in the Magrath Cemetery with Donald Bennett dedicating the grave. Lillian Beswick contributed the following poem which Mrs. Isabel Bennett composed and gave to her once when she was canvassing for the Cancer Fund. Why is it when I watch TV I cannot keep from dozing, Constantly it seems I fight To keep my eyes from closing. Yet when at last it's time for bed, And sleep no more denied, I lie there in my darkened room With both eyes opened wide. Isabel Bennett, March 17, 1987. Mr. Randell Payne, beloved husband of Mrs. Eunice Payne of Lethbridge, and formerly of Magrath, passed away suddenly at home on Sunday, May 19th, 1991 at the age of 80 years. Besides his loving wife he is surv­ived by his children Gordon (Colleen) Payne of Calgary, Carolyn (Ken) Pierson of Lethbridge, Joan (Greg) Szteina of Lethbridge, Robin (Maureen) Payne of Calgary and daughter-in-law Susan. He is also survived by 26 grandchildren, one great grandchild, a sister Hilda (Fred) Romeril and a brother, Glen (Dorothy) Going. Funeral Services were held in the 10th Ave. L.D.S. Chapel Wednesday, May 22nd with President Robert Bender offic­iating. Interment took place in Mountain View Cemetery. This annual event,now in it's ninth year, is co-ordinated by Canada's Fitweek Secret­ariat and sponsored by groups from both the private and public sectors. Canada's Fitweek is a nation-wide umbrella campaign designed to encourage all Canadians to incorporate regular physical activity into their everyday life. Fitweek is for every Canadian especially those who are semi-or-not-so physically active. Chinook Health Unit encourages all community residents to participate in local Fitweek activities anyway they see fit.
