UNIVERSITY COUNCIL LIBRARY COMMITTEE MINUTES March 17, 1953 A meeting of the Library Committee was held at 3:00 p.m. March 17, 19^3. Present were: Dr. Howard, Mr. Hanna Rizk, Dr. Butros and Kamal Butros. The following actions were taken: lp6. The minutes of the previous meeting were approved. 1 l7. It was agreed that the Library staff should prepare a list of borrowing two weeks before the end of the 2nd semester; no grades to be given students before clearing up with the Library. Ip8. The Committee was informed of the inquiry made by the Bursar’s Office for securing the individual references. When Miss Lister’s answer is received, showing the possibility of replacements, Dr. Howard will take over the matter with Student Council for charges; heads of departments to arrange for replacements. [{.9. The Committee was informed of the final decision of the Freshman Library Exams. This year it is an "objective exam" and it will not be given in the Library, as formerly. 50. The Committee was informed of the continuous missing of books, particularly reserve books; staff finds difficulty for: a. Shortage of reserve books. b. Increasing number of students. c. Short time given as "deadline" for presenting papers. The following suggestions were considered: a. Dr. Howard to be informed of the price(s) of the publication^) so the whole class should be charged. b. Staff to send a request to teachers for giving a longer period of time for the work, according to "demand and supply." c. Students to keep out their own bags and books; notebooks only to be allowed into the stacks. d. Fence to be moved again - to add to Reading Room as formerly. e. Keep Monday and Thursday afternoons, from ip:00 to 5:00 p.m. for night course students’ borrowing, in order to avoid crowd at the desk and to have more control at that busy hour. 51.
