UNIVERSITY COUNCIL LIBRARY COMMITTEE MINUTES November 11, 1952# A meeting of the Library Committee was held at ll:ii5 a.m. November 11, 195>2. Present were: Dr. Howard, Dr. Butros, Mr. Hanna Rizk and Kamal Butros. The following actions were taken: 11* The approved minutes of last meeting were read. 12. The Committee was informed of the Orientation periods given to new students of Education, Extension, and Faculty. Exhibits prepared and shown for some occasions. 13. The Committee approved the arrangements made with S.O.S. for the use of the Arabic typewriter; twenty hours a week reserved. lU. A request of having a telephone took place: Dr. Howard was ready to examine the question of having either an independent one, or a switch. 15>. The Committee was informed of the gifts to the Library from the Embassy; Encyclopaedia Britannica and a complete set of "Authors Digest" from Mr. James S. Weaver were appreciated; and a list of Fouad 1st Publications was considered. 16. It was approved to sell some Old books as Second-hand books the first week of December. 17# It was agreed to close the Library from 9*55 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. during Assembly hours, so that staff could attend. 18. It was proposed that S.O.S. Secretary should be trained shelving, in order to help with S.O.S. books. 19# At the request of the Division of Extension, it was found difficult to open the Library on Saturday evenings; it was suggested to try an experiment of charging the needed bibliography to the Extension Office, where students could use it at the time. 20. Room 108, for Periodicals, is not yet available because of pressure for class-room space. 21. Dr. Howard reported the sum of LE.275 for book purchases to be distributed among College departments; special form of lists for book-orders was recommended. 22.
