THE AMERICAN UNIVERSITY IN CAIRO THE LIBRARY LIBRARY COMMITTEE Draft Minutes Library, Room 400 lloOOa.m. Thursday February 24, 1972 Presents Mr, Moore, Dr. Murphy, Mr. Pippin, Dr. Ciaccio, Dr. Mansour, Mrs. Meneisy, and as visitors, Dr. Weeks and President Thoron. Absents Dr. Hill, Dr. Heasley, and Dr. Tadros. The Agenda was reduced in order to allow President Thoron to speak for the Administration on the matter of faculty involvement in the planning of a new library building. The draft minutes of the meeting of November 30, 1971, were read and approved. According to an earlier request of the Committee, copies of minutes of meetings of earlier years were distributed among present members. The Library Committee unanimously Instructed its Chairman to address an invitation to the student body through the High Board to designate two students, one undergraduate and one graduate, to sit as full members of the Library Committee for the remainder of the academic year. The Committee considered at some length the related problems of book theft and entry and exit checks in the library. No committee action was taken at this time. President Thoron read a report on the new library project and invited the committee to discuss xd.th him the question of the best method of faculty involvement in the project and its eventual realization. The sense of the meeting was that an appropriate group of faculty members already exists in the Library Committee itself as it is representative of the several departments, to meet with Br. Weeks of the Library Administrative Committee, Dr. Saleh, Dean Crabbs, Mr. Moore, Mr. Nichols, Engineer Yehia, and Mr. Mustafa Mounir of D.P.S., as well as with President Thoron. Finally, Mr. Pippin requested the members to submit to him notification of the times most convenient to them for future meetings, and the committee adjourned its present meeting at 12:50. R.G.
