• Faculty Meeting, Cairo No-venter 21, 195E - 11:00 a.m. Dr. McLain presided at the meeting and callcd upon the chairmen of the cii_ff crcnt committees to submit their summary reports to the Faculty. - lE-OPINING OF SCIIIODL: Mr. Hanna Rizk reported to the Faculty that, although the situation in Egypt h-,.d unproved, the University was not yet in a position to set a date for rc-opcning classes. - MILITA T TRAINLIG OF A.U.C. SW F: Mr. Hanna Rizk mentioned that because a number of staff melabcrs had expressed the desire to get military training, he got in touch with the Teachers' Club at Gczirch and was informed that our staff members could be organized into one group, if they so wished. The staff members concerned agreed to have their training from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. At the close of - the meeting they filled out the information blank sent by the Teachers' Club. - A.U.C. RELIEF UNIT: Commenting on the contributions in money received from the American Office, from Geneva and from the staff in Egypt, Dr. Laila stated that the University contribution would most probably reach LE.2000.000 Contributions from àmerica.,, mostly from the Board LE.1300. - r' from Geneva. stiff - rr from local staff and some alumni - LE.1925.- Dr. Laila proceeded by reporting on the visit made last week by our Relief. Committee to the refugee centers at Mansoura, and acquainting the Faculty of the problems which were efficiently handled by the Government and other organizations and those areas ,,There our services would be needed most. . - Distribution of money and clothing is well organized. The Government gives PT.10 daily to each inclividu.al, while the Red Crescent distributes clothing. Our Committee felt that it was quite safe to hand our clothing gifts to the Rod Crescent Organization. B - The essentials arc nr. ovided. Social relief organizations and the people of the area are: all cooper ,ting fully with the Government in helping the refugees. Room for the services of small relief organizations lies in rehabilitation work, recreation, cultural activities and organization of self-help among the refugees. C - A committee such as ours c-mnot tackle the problem of the crowding existing in the refugee centers. Unless we receive assistance from large or:anizations which can provide tents such as the American Red Cross. D - Since A.U.C. Relief Committee would like to work directly with the refugee centers, the Faculty was asked if any could lend his car to the committee or suggest 6n outside source which could provide car service or residence at Mansoura
