Appendix to Page 159 (19) seemed neoessary and wise at times to call them in for counsel and assistance. At suoh times they have been a source of great help to this office. In addition to his own research work, Dr. Butrus Abd-al-Ialik, Criental Research Scholar, has taught IV Term grammer, has served as adviser to II and V Term students, has met two classes weekly in Newspaper Translation anal has led a weekly seminar in Hebrew Grammar and Translation for beginning students. Dr. Butrus's activities as librarian of the School have been somewhat curtailed by our small budget. A start has been made in trying to get our periodical files in order again and considerable work will be done in the library during the coming summer. He has also been a source of great help in classroom supervision, and particularly in helping aivancel students of the V Term and the M.A. candi-date. Dr. Butrus has also delivered several lectures to the student body of the School; they are noted in detail below. Dr. Elder of the American Mission has continued as formerly teaching in the School; during the first semester he gave a course of lectures dealing with the phonetics of Arabic to the I and II Term students. He has been adviser to IV Term students throughout the year. My own duties in the School have been generally of an administrative natures - mueting students and the public, advising I Term students, correspon-dence, adaptations of the curriculum, supervision of examinations, etc. Miss Lulu Atalla, secretary of the School, has been a remarkably able assistant in all this work. Her ability to carry the details of the office and to meet the Arabic, English and French-speaking public is an asset to us. In addition to her work as secretary she has also met two classes per week in Newspaper Trans-lation. The great burden of teaching colloquial and classical Arabic has been carried with loyalty and genuine effort by the eight Egyptian teachers - Milad Eff., Latif Eff., Boulos Eff., Sheikh Fahmy, Sheikh Zaki, Sheikh Ahmad, Sheikh Sayyid and Miss 1 ounira. It would be difficult to over-estimate the importance of the general efficiency and good-will that these teachers evidence for the institution. This devotion is evidenced in fine fashion in their attendance to the sometimes tiring daily routine which individual tuition necessarily in-volves.
