He was granted a tuition scholarship against our general scholarships funds and his Hostel fees were cared for by Miss Djedawi's family. Miss Djedawi was given tuition, board and room at Occidental, from a student fund raised to provide for exchanges. Reports indicate that Miss Djedawi proved to be a most excellent representative in the California college both for us and for her country. The president has written with enthusiasm of her contributions tc the life of the college; it was reported that she was voted a most popular student. This fact was publicized in the Arabic press. (4) A marked contribution to the life of the college was made by two Maskers' productions under the direction of Mr. Suvanto. Howard's The Silver Cord and Shaw's You Never Can Tell are plays of considerable literary and theatrical value and are thōu0Et ō ` as taxing the capacities of any dramatic group. Both productions had many merits in organization and acting. The high standards main-tained by Mr. Suvanto for work and his insistence on continued effort once a responsibility had been accepted were excellent educational features of the pro-gram. These productions made for good publicity and public relations. An outgrowth of the dramatic activity has been the establishment of a chapter of Alpha Psi Omega, a national honor fraternity in America. Only those who have proved themselves by varied participation in dramatic activities are invited to join, the membership in any one year being limited to ten. A club room has been provided under the stage of Ewart Hall. It is to be hoped that gradually other honor societies can be established and that, where possible, links can be made with similar groups in America. Since a stream of students is going to America for graduate study, those who are members of national or inter-national honor societies are likely to find a satisfaction in being able to establish a relationship with fellow members. It is a minor point, yet it can have a value in giving our students and graduates the sense of special linkage with the student domain of America. (5) As a means to emphasize our interest, as an American institution in Egypt, in the teaching of Arabic and the promotion of Arabic culture, an Arabic Language Day was held in April. Invitations were issued to Egyptian Secondary Schools in the vicinity to send groups of students from their examination classes; headmasters and headmistresses likewise were invited and representatives from the Ministry; also the parents of our Fifth Form and Fifth Year students. In other worts, the occasion was used as a possible contribution to the student-getting program. Abdel Aziz Eff. planned the program carefully so that it included recitations, acting, and singing. One feature was a dramatized "Assembly talk" on good and evil. There was an audience of several hundred; the response to the program was enthusiastic. Parents and Linistry personnel spoke with appreciation of the fire character of the program. Refreshment was provided free by the general manager of Coca Cola Company. Probably the date was set rather too late in the spring for us to be able to get maximum attaldance from the Iv9inistry schools. We shall seek to have this kind of event annually either in late February or early March. Not only is it good public relations, but we may hope that it will definitely aid in student getting. It is greatly to be desired that we also return to the practice of having a well-produced Arabic play as an annual feature
