As I mingled with the group and later made further inquiries, I found some interesting facts about the alumni and the work which they are doing. Let me hit just a few of the high spots: The president of the Alumni Association startled me by saying that American University men were playing an important part in the Arab revolt in Palestine. This was rather alarming at first until I realized what the situation in Palestine is. If I were a young Arab of ability and training, I would be doing exactly the same thing that these young men are doing - fighting to preserve my homeland. Since we have always had a large number of outstanding Palestinian boys, it is natural that they should play an important part in trying to stop a movement which they feel is destroying their country. Gamil, our boy from Mecca, har been called to a post in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the government of Saoudi Arabia. Ahmed Shoukri who has been for several years a secretary in the Egyptian Legation in Rome, was recently recalled and has departed as a member of a special mission to China. here is only one purely Egyptian bank in the valley of the Nile and one of our graduates has an important position in the Bank Misr. In the field of medicine, Ur. Gilbert Ibrahim has quickly built up a wide practice in Egypt, gives much time to a clinic for the poor, is on the staff of one hospital, and donates his services as University physician to A.U.C. Dr. Sany Sharara has already directed considerable attention by his original work in surgery. Another alumnus is famous as a plastic surgeon. Still another is on the staff of the fever hospital in Cairo. And so on. Dentistry seems to have attracted a great many of our graduates. Dr. Dawood Husseini opened in a large Moslem section of Jaffa, Palestine, the first dental clinic to be run by a Palestinian Moslem. The field of pharmacy has drawn a great marry of our young men. Most outstanding is Loris Dirlik, who having inherited his father's business, now runs the largest English pharmacy- in Cairo. In journalism we have just made a beginning. Anis Mulkie holds an important position with the Zeidan publications which produces the best weekly illustrated journals in the Arabic language. Miss Nifissa Afifi as the editor of a woman's page in the BALAGH, one of the most widely circulated of the Arabic newspapers. Miss Eva Habib, our first girl graduate, has recently joined the leading Egyptian feminist, Madame Sharawi, to assist her with a new feminist magazine. In the field of aviation, two of our alumni have attained considerable prominence. One is Director of the great Almaza airport. The making of Arabic moving pictures is another new enterprise in Egypt. One alumnus recently directed an outstanding picture for this organiz-ation, and another, Kadry Mahmoud who represented Egypt in swimming at th
