The first alumnus to seek a career in the field of radio broadcasting is Abdal Hamid Yasine who arranges programs for the State Broadcasting Depart-ment of the Palestine Government and gives Arabic talks on the air. Although modern education seems to win students away from the active management of farms and family estates, there are exceptions among our grad-uates. One whom I visited, Ali Seif el Nasir, is managing a large section of his fathers s 1500 acre plantation. He was elected mayor of the town, was chairman of the Committee on Arrangements and made the address of welcome when the Prime Minister visited the Fayoum last fall. In the field of teaching our outstanding alumnus is Dr. Ishak Husseini who is in charge of the entire Arabic section of the Palestine Department of Education, and is at present wrestling with the great task of introducing modern methods of studying Arabic in the Palestine schools. A recent educational development of great importance has been the sending of Egyptian teachers to Iraq at the request of the latter government. Under this arrangement, Lr. Mohammad Tewfik Yunis, one of our most brilliant and loyal graduates, is professor of law at the Government law school at Baghdad. Ibrahim Kamil holds an important position in the Government school of pharmacy. As we check over this list of alumni, one should bear in mind that the first class to graduate was in 1922 and the oldest of our alumni would range between 30 and 35 years of age. It is most encouraging to see these young men and women in relatively important positions in the ar ercrowded Near East, and to realize that they are showing in their careers that initiative and integrity which the institution seeks to develop in all its students. In conclusion, your Secretary returns to America more enthusiastic than ever at the far reaching piece of work being done by this small American educa-tional institution. The members of our staff are men of personality and leader-ship ability. They are tied up to agreat Cause. They have a great objective and there is unmistakable evidence that they are achieving great results. Hundreds of students are different men and women because they have known these professors. The thinking of Egypt and the customs of an entire people have been influenced by these men, and to a lesser degree other sections of the Moslem world are different because of their contacts with these men. A little missionary institution having an influence on the Moslem world? But why should we be surprised? All the sacrifice, all the devotion, all the thought and hard work, and all the prayer that has gone into this project warrant a measure of success. And I can report to you who have commissioned me to go to Egypt, that the University has won a large measure of success. My one regret is that I am unable to convey to you in words the splendid accomplishments of this devoted group of Christian men and the unlimited opportunity which is ours if we remain faithful to our great Christian purpose.
