In Mr. Abdel Kader Naamani's return to our teaching staff after several years absence, we were most happy. Because of the release of all Palestinian and Syrian teachers from their posts in Iraq we were able the more readily to se-cure Mr. Naamani. He carried a full program of Mathematics teaching; he showed a readiness to participate once again in extra-curricular activites. Mr. Vandersall looks forward to the appointment of Mr. Naamani as chairman of the Mathematics department; I believe we have in him a loyal, capable teacher whom we shall want to retain in our staff as long as we can make his remaining with us financially attractive. une other graduate, Mr. Manucher Moabdazadah, was given full-time employment after several years of part-time teaching and study hall supervision. His relationships with students are cordial and his work wholly satisfactory. Besides his standing as a teacher his position in the Iranian commuaity makes his membership on our staff a valuable asset for us. He proposed a visit by the Iranian minister and conducted it most capably. of several part-time teachers two or tnree should receive special mention. It was possible to arrange with the Extension Department to secure the help of Hanna Rizk for teaching the course in Sociology for Seniors. Mr. Kiven, chairman of the Social Science Group, has the highest praise for the contribution made by Mr. hizk because of his training and experience. Samir Souqi, a recent graduate, was able to take some time from his duties as a reporter to give four hours of teaching in Geography to Form III. His resorting experiences gave an excellent background for Geography teaching. une of our most impressive additions to the staff was that of Dr. hiad Shams to teach Journalism. He has had extensive experience in Journalism as an editorial writer, he has held a post in the Press Bureau so that he has practical knowledge of the application of the press law in Egypt. In addition Dr. Shams has cordial and close relations with the leaders of the Wafd party, yet is not out of grace with other party men since Barakat Pasha recommended him to us. It may be possible to secure Dr. Shams for other courses in the Journalism depart-ment if we can offer a sufficiently high salary; to do so should mean a great strengthening of the department from the standpoint of building it up with Arabic speaking students. Mr. Parr's three year term is concluded; he showed no inclination to extend it. He has been conscientious in the performance of his teaching duties, but his interest in practical journalism has perhaps prevented him from being as valuable a member of the Hostel staff as we would have wished. By his reporting and his broadcasts he may have given a certain fame to the institution, a fame which is, of course, hard to assess. Mr. Patouillet's three year contract has also expired, but he has been persuaded to remain for another year. The trustees had indicated a desire to have him given a permanent appointment. He is a young man whom we should by all means tie into our staff if the means can be found. With regret to the present group of permanent men he is at an age which will bring in a younger viewpoint; he has proved his ability to work with us; he has vision, industry, ability to organize; he is eminently successful in dealing with younger students and has excellent relations with the older ones. This next year Mr. Patouillet will act as supervisor of the Preparatory section; it is probable that in this capacity capacity he would best serve as a permanent member of the staff, at the same time directing either the physical education program or the Hostel, positions in which he has already deiuonstratea his ability. Dr. Smith has departed for his furlough. During the past two years he has given himself unreservedly to the direction of the character training group and the problems growing out of his own classes.
