Tuition Allowance Advanced: AR a tentative measure for 1946-47, the Finance Committee voted to increase by ^625 (LE.125) the allowances for children in Egypt (5 q tl'5) of permanent appointees since they were informed that the Oil Companies' new school had set this high figure for its pupils and the American missionaries in Egypt had discontinued thier school. Investigations made as to advances in America show no increase in tuition affecting missionary children. Basic Salary Allowances: Dr. Badeau in his letter of July ', 1946 urged an increase in the basic salary allowance of permanent men on the ground of the in-creased cost of living in Egypt during and since the war. The Finance Committee has been unable to discover whether the present high Index Figure of cost of living is temporary or permanent. It has also studied the salary figures of ad-joining missions and finds the University rate higher than some and lower than others, yielding no decisive conclusion. It it also aware of an increase in the basic salary rate of permanent men in 1942-43 of $400 or ?0.5 per cent. The Committee recommends below a tentative increase of $100 in the salary of perman-ent men, limited to the second semester of 1946-47. A' the end of this period the matter is to be reviewed.
