<1 SUMMARY OF THE FACULTY MEETING, OCTOBER 14, 1975, BLUE Chairperson convened a meeting at 1:00 p.m. in order to report to’ what measures have been taken by the Program Committee as a result of the passed on Wednesday, October iOth. Attached is a summary of their deliberations (att. #I). The chairperson then read a statement from the Ad-Hoc Student Faculty Coordinating and Review Committee to the Faculty (see att. #2). A motion to endorse the structure of this committee, and to authorize it to make recommendations on behalf of the faculty to the President and to report back to the Faculty at least once a week was passed. A motion to accept the recommendations as presented by the ad-hoc committee en seriatum was passed (see att. #2). The chairperson reported on the Issue of the cable that was raised at the October IOth meeting. The Program Committee unanimously endorsed the sending of a cable on behalf of the Faculty. The following cable was sent to President Sadat on Saturday, October 13th: THE AMERICAN UNIVERSITY IN CAIRO HAS ALWAYS DEDICATED ITSELF TO SERVING THE NEEDS AND ASPIRATIONS OF THE YOUNG GENERATION OF THE EGYPTIAN SOCIETY. AT THIS CRITICAL MOMENT IN EGYPT’S HISTORY WE OF THE FACULTY ONCE AGAIN REAFFIRM OUR DEDICATION TO, SYMPATHY WITH, AND SUPPORT FOR THE EGYPTIAN PEOPLE AS YOU STRUGGLE TO ACHIEVE YOUR SOVEREIGN RIGHTS AND MAY THIS STRUGGLE REALIZE ITS OBJECTIVE OF A JUST AND LASTING PEACE IN THE MIDDLE EAST. A second cable to be handed to the American Interest Section of the Spanish Embassy in Cairo was circulated for all Interested non-Egyptian Faculty to members to sign. It read as follows: WE, THE UNDERSIGNED 44 NON-EGYPTIAN FACULTY MEMBERS AT THE AMERICAN UNIVERSITY IN CAIRO, EXPRESS OUR CONCERN OVER THE PARTISAN POLICY OF THE U.S. TOWARDS EGYPT IN HER STURGGLE TO REGAIN CONQUERED TERRITORY. WE URGE'U.S. NEUTRALITY AT THE VERY LEAST. The meeting was adjourned at 3:00 p.m
