THE FACULTY OF THE AMERICAN UNIVERSITY IN CAIRO Draft Minutes 1:30 p.m. Wednesday- Oriental Hall October 21, 1964 324. PRESENT: Forty-seven (47) members were present. 325. MINUTES OF MAY 25 AND SEPTEMBER 21, 1964: The minutes of May 25 and September 21, 1964 were approved as circulated. 326. ANNOUNCEMENT REGARDING- THE LUNCHES PRECEDING FACULTY MEETINGS: Dr. Namani announced that it is important that the Faculty respond on time to the notices that are sent through the University mail, if adequate arrangements are to be made for the serving of lunch prior to each meeting. At the request of Dr. Namani, the Faculty indicated by a show of hands that these lunches should be continued. 327. REPORT FROM THE FACULTY PROGRAM COMMITTEE: Dr. Namani reported that the Faculty Program Committee had agreed on the following tentative order of meetings and activities for this year: 1. A bi-monthly business meeting, beginning with this one in October. 2. A bi-monthly meeting with a distinguished guest speaker, ■ beginning with one in November. 3. An afternoon picnic for the Faculty (with wives or husbands and children) early In November at the Pioneers (Rowwad) Chalet behind the Pyramids. 4. A social party in honor of departing staff late in May. Dr. Namani noted that the guest speaker for November may be the Minister of Higher Education Dr. Abdel Aziz xv.L Sap eci * but suggested that such meetings may at other times, and if necessary, be devoted to Faculty colloquia. Following some discussion, the Faculty approved this report. 328. REPORT FROM THE BY-LAWS AMENDMENT COMMITTEE: Dr. Namani reported that the By-Laws Amendment Committee considered the possibility of amending the appropriate article under Section I A of the By-Laws to'include the Assistant Director of the Division of Public Services and the University Business Manager, but was unable to reach a decision. Rather than delay the membership of Dr. George D. Russell and Mr. Charles C. Dole however, the Committee agreed to recommend that they be invited to membership as individuals rather than in their official administrative capacities
