MINUTES OF THE COUNCIL OF THE 1MEJT UNIVERSITY AT CAIRO—<ilay 23,1923. 208. , ORGANIZATION The Council of the American University at Cairo met in special session on May 23, 1923 with the following members present: Ur. HOUSING- The special business on hand was the presentation of a « report from the Eousirg Committee, which recommended that in order to effect a financial saving and to facilitate the settling of the housing problem, that the Jefferys be assigned to 12 Suliman Pasha for the coming year, and that the short term instructors be assigned as follows: two to Watsons, two to Yandersalls, one to Gaits, one to defferys, one to Leetes, ana one to Boyds. When Ur. Watson returns in the middle of the next school year (Januaiy 1924) if there is not at that time a hostel to which two men can be assigned, then the two men who are assigned to Watsons for the first part of the school year may be provided for in a room in the college building, but merely as a temporary measure for the remainder of the year. The Council adopted this measure tentatively and recommended that Ur. ’Vatson confer with the short term instructors who were involved in the change. ' Galt, Secretary. ORGANICATION The Council of the American University at Cairo met in regular session on May 26, 1923 with the following members present: Ur. C. R. Watson, Ur. R. S. KcClenahan, Professors Cleland, Jeffery and Galt. Mr* Cleland opened the meeting witji prayer. 211. MINUTES The Minutes of the Previous regular meeting were approved*' 212. HOUSING Ur. Watson reported that he had seen the men involved in / the charged arrangements proposed in the report of the Housing Committee, No.209 of May 23, 1923, and some of the men expressed an earnest desire that they be allowed to room by themselves under such an arrangement as had been followed the past year rather than be assigned to rooms in the homes of permanent members of the Faculty. After a full discussion, Council decided that since the question of housing involved more than a matter of mere personal desire, and since the new ar-raigements proposed resulted in considerable financial saving, and at the same time provided for the adequate comfort of the instructors, that the Housing Committee’s report should be adopted. The execution of the report was referred to the Housing Committee. The matter of having the men choose their rooms for next year was referred to Mr. Cleland with instructions that he speak with Mr. Matthews concerning the better time for carrying this through, manner of choosing rooms, etc. 213.
