ORGANIZATION The Council of the American University at Cairo met on April 7f 1923 with the following members presenti Dr. C. R* Watson, Dr. R. S. McClenahan, and Professors Cleland, Jeffery and Galt, Dr. Watson opened the meeting with prayer. 157. MINUTES The Minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved. 158. AMIR EFFEKDI The president reported that, by cable from Mr. Lum, in- formation had been received that the Board of Trustees approved the recommendation of the Council concerning Amir Effendi*s year of study in America. (See Minute No.- 83 of Nov. 18, 1922) 159. ALLOWANCES In view of the fact that Dr. Hill has requested the Council to provide him with information on the subject of suggested modifications in salary allowances along the line of children’s allowances, medical allowances, and allowances for standardization of house equipment, it was suggested that the following conmittees be appointed to prepare a questionnaire under each of these headings and to secure other information concerning the matter from outside sources: Children’s Allavances: Dr. Watson and Mr, Galt; Medical Allowances: Mr. Cleland and Mr* Galt; Allowances for Standardization of House Equipment; Dr. McClenahan and Mr. Cleland. 160. ORGANIZATION At the call of the President, a special meeting of the Council was held on April 10, 1923 with the following members present: Dr. C. R. Watson, Dr. R. S. McClenahan, and Professors Cleland, Jeffery and Galt. Dr. Watson led in prayer. 162. HOUSING The Housing Committee presented a report and a long discussion follov«d concerning the matter of housing both Faculty and students. It was finally recommended that the Committee secure by every available means information concerning the houses in close proximity to the College that might possibly be used as student hostels.
