.. -2- Corporation, would be pleased to provide pro bono support for this event as it did for the New York Public Library dinner/dance, and the committee accepted this gracious and generous offer and expressed its thanks to Mr. Mac Donald. Mr. Mac Donald stated that he would proceed with this idea and would try to convene a meeting of the Public Relations Committee members soon to more clearly formulate the party/event concept, with the thought of presenting something in draft form for the President to review in July when he is back on home leave in the United States. The committee agreed that this would be a very good idea, since time is of the essence. It was also suggested that perhaps Mary Iskander could provide the names of alumni in the Washington, D. C. area who might be willing to help and/or attend this event. 4. Mr. -Mac Donald then focused the committee's attention on the subject of advertising the University in various publications, perhaps in tandem with the Washington, D. C. event, or separately. He mentioned costs, for example, of a Sunday supplement page in the Washington Post as totalling approximately $50,000 for the space, and $25,000 for the design. While stating that this was certainly a large expenditure, he said that this might be something for the Board to consider at some point, and the Committee agreed. 5. The next item on the agenda was a possible presentation at the Middle East Studies Association meeting in November 1988 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California. Mr. Mac ~Donald suggested that the audience attending this meeting could be potentially important for AUC. Dr. Winder stated that in the main most of those attending already know about AUC, but that an expanded book exhibit would be a very goop idea. Dr. Pedersen stated that AUC had done a press display at the previous meeting in Baltimore, and that it had been very well received. The committee agreed that an enlarged book exhibit would seem to be an excellent idea, although there could be some cost involved. 6. included: Mr. Mac Donald then presented some additional ideas that he wanted to put before the committee for its comments and suggestions. These Presenting a p-laque to distinguished people in the media; Using AUC's studios for cable television; Inviting 5 people a year to visit AUC representing the media, academics, major donors, and the like; Hosting faculty receptions in the United States; Setting up small receptions for alumni, hosted by Trustees. The committee felt that all these ideas had a great deal of merit and should be presented to the Board for further development
