-3- 7. The next agenda item concerned the possibility of an opinion poll, a subject which came up in connection with the AUC Associa t es group. Mr. Mac Donald stated that Mobil would cover the costs of having Mr. "Tubby" Harrison come to New York and talk to the Associates at the next meeting about opinion polls, but Mr. Mac Donald cautioned that such polls are seldom useful tools and that it was not highly likely that AUC would be able to gain anything from such an effort. 8. Mr. Mac Donald then turned the meeting Qver to Dr. Pedersen for his comments about public relations matters in Cairo. Dr. Pedersen referred the committee to a public relations policy draft prepared since the last meeting, and suggested that this be reviewed by Mr. Mac Donald and the other committee members for their comments and suggestions in time for the fall meeting, with a thought toward future implementation. Mr. Hac Donald raised a question about the public relations effort in Cairo, and Dr. Pedersen commented that it was being ably handled by the director, Louis Greiss. Dr. Pedersen also mentioned that Betty Wass, the wife of Dr. EI-Wakil, has agreed to take on a one-year assignment, beginning in fall 1988, as head of Ewart Hall's cultural programs. He stated that this would be a renewal in the University's and Ewart Hall's former reputation as a cultural center of Cairo. Finally, he call~d the committee's attention to some recent articles about AUC in the Cairo press. In particularly he mentioned that there had been an attack by an Islamic right wing journal and that this represented the first time AUC had ·been attacked by the Islamic right wing. Mr. Mac Donald mentioned that he and a number of other Board members are good friends with Abdullah Nassif, head of the Islamic World Youth Organization, and suggested that it might be helpful at some point to have Abdullah Nassif visit AUC and perhaps publicly give it his best wishes.
