Reporting: Ms. Emert 1. Agenda The agenda was approved. 2. Minutes The minutes of the last meeting were approved. 3. Final 1988/89 Admissions Data Dr. Allam reported that for the academic year 1988/89, a total of 848 new incoming students had been accepted, as opposed to the goal of 800. Among foreigners, 293 students had been accepted as opposed to the goal of 200. As the university as a whole included 78% Egyptians among degree students compared to the 75% figure of the protocol, this result was acceptable. Two hundred sixty-seven new graduate students were admitted. The numbers of ALU, CASA, and graduate students were slightly down this year. The total number of students enrolled this spring is 3009, compared to 2873 last spring. Mrs. Driscoll expressed concern over the number of disqualified students in the Fall semester '88 (52). Dr. Allam said that some return, so that the net loss is less than the total figure. For example, 54 students were readmitted this year. Dr. Allam said that in the future an effort will be made to allow for attrition when accepting new students. Dean Montassir pointed out that she is trying to get students to fill out a formal withdrawal form and be interviewed about their reasons for leaving so that dropping out is better understood and can be prevented
