The minutes of the previous meeting were approved. Dr. Pedersen reported that tuition was now generating 33% of the total operating budget of the University. It is expected that this share will in the future continue to increase, but that the increases will be less dramatic. A.I.D. share in the total operating budget has dropped to 26%. Dr. Pedersen also expected that grant and research monies would increase. In general, the budget will be in balance this year, but since expenses have been increasing more quickly than income, tighter controls on expenditures will be needed in future years. Dr. Pedersen reported that the University was in the process of finding replacements for two Egyptian administrators: Chief Engineer Yehia Fahmy, who passed away in the fall, and Assistant Business Manager Ahmed EI Lozy, who will retire at the end of the current school year. The following resolution was adopted: RESOLVED that the Trustees of the American University in Cairo express their deep thanks and appreciation for the long and faithful service of Engineer Yehia Fahmy and Mr. Ahmed EI Lozy. On student affairs, Dr. Pedersen noted that the enrollment picture had improved since the last Board meeting and enrollment was now close to 2400 in the University's degree programs
