..: . -2- RESOLVED, That the Trustees of The American University in Cairo do hereby express their deep sorrow at the death of their Chairman, Landon K. Thorne, Jr., and their profound gratitude and admiration for his leadership and service over his 18 years as a Trustee and 8 years as Chairman, and in order to memorialize his many accomplishments and generous support of the University do hereby approve and direct the construction of the Landon K. Thorne Terrace and Fountain at the site of the New Library on the campus in Cairo. 3. Report of the Nominating Committee (Mr. Simpson acting for Mr. Devine, who was absent). The Nominating Committee proposed the election of Charles J. Hedlund as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of The American University in Cairo. A motion was duly made, seconded and unanimously carried electing Mr. Hedlund as Chairman. The Trustees expressed their admiration and gratitude to Mr. Hedlund. Mr. Hedlund accepted the Chairmanship noting that rotation of the Chairmanship and Trustees is a good idea . . Mr. Hedlund confirmed that Mr. McCloy has agreed to accept the position of Treasurer of the Board, and the Chairmanship of the Finance Committee. The Nominating Committee recommended that the Board ratify the earlier acceptance by r·1r. Hedlund of the resignation of Lucius D. Battle. The Trustees passed the following Resolution, to wit: RESOLVED, that the Board of Trustees of The American University in Cairo ratifies the acceptance by the Chairman of the resignation of The Honorable Lucius D. Battle, and expresses to him its profound gratitude for his most valuable service as a Trustee since 1972, and for his helpful support and counsel during his tenure as United States Ambassador to Egypt. The Nominating Committee recommended that Dorothea Hammond be elected an Honorary Life Trustee and the Board passed the following Resolution, to wit: RESOLVED, that in accordance with the provisions of the By-Laws of the University, and in recognition of her six­teen years of service as a Trustee during which period she gave generously of her time and advice, particularly as regards important and delicate matters in Washington, Dorothea Hammond be hereby named an Honorary Life Trustee
