Dr. Provinse and Dr. Hirabayashi were particularly interested in exchan; ing views with the people in charge of these offices, Different professional activities were carried out by subgroups from the Faculty. For example, Mrs, Johnston and Miss Taylor made a study of the Freshman Program, the science group discussed the problem of teaching biology, Dr, Ingram and Miss Stambler studied the topic of teaching aids and the SRC group set up a project to analyze the ki.E. stories. The Faculty held a number of group sessions to study educational problems of general nature such as the improving of teaching at the university level and the importance of knowing our students. It was soon found out that such topics could not be fully discussed without a basic discussion of the aims of our university program, and consequently the group gave further thought to those fundamental concepts as well. According to instructions received later from Dr. McLain, the group gave thought to the possibility of opening a secondary school and to a proposed program of English instruction to teachers of English in Egyptian schools. Although unaware of the full background of the pro-jects under study, the committee deliberated through these questions and made preliminary judgments, In Geneva, the Faculty had the chance to meet with educators and repre-sentatives of cultural organizations. Mr. Overstreet, a political science teacher and supervisor of the Smith College Junior group in Geneva, asked Dr. Proctor to help with the junior project of Smith girls. The Geneva Faculty had fruitful discussions with him about the Junior Year program of Smith College., The Faculty also met Mr. Iverson, the head of I.E. office of Ford Foundation, who happened to be on his way to Beirut. He was very interested in the M.E. problems and shared with the Faculty his own experiences of the UN meetings in New York. After 12 meetings of the Geneva Council and a good many days of discus-sion and individual study, the Geneva Faculty members are now having a weekls vacation in anticipation of a prompt call to resume their classes with added zeal. Though they feel somewhat cut off from AUC program, individual members have gained professional experience which will also help the work of AUC. Dean Hollenbach then called upon Dean Horton and the rest of the group to report briefly on other aspects of the activities that took place in Geneva, Report of Dean Horton: Dean Horton chose to talk mainly about the evacuation experience. Though landing crafts the evacuated group was transported on board three small US troop carriers on Friday, November 30. The evacuation procedure was efficiently handled by both Egyptian and American authorities. A coffee table was the first thing which greeted the evacuees on board the troop carrier. The marines were very generous and helpful; they spared no effort to help the ladies and children to make the best of a rough situation. They even washed the diapers of the babies, a gesture which made Mrs. Proctor very happy. At Crete the group WS transferred from the small troop carriers to a large troop transport, where mothers and children could be accommodated comfortably. Nevertheless, the morale was low on the second ship. The marines of the first were courteous, warm and friendly; they were helping people in a stre $ situa ion. The second ship came when the excitement had cooled down; the attitude of the crew was routine and de-tached. The Faculty members were very eager to hear the news of Egypt. Thoug
