So successful has this experiment been, that the Council of the University is studying the formation of a curriculum that will allow the Division of Extension to give a degree for its work. The record of the Division of Extension would not be complete without re-cording the splendid leadership given by John Rizk. His direction of the Division during this year has amply demonstrated his ability and the wisdom of his appoint-ment as Dr. Cleland's successor. Furthermore the Egyptian staff of the University was deeply gratified that one of their number received this recognition of ability and leadership. Statistics: lectures 19, attendance 4236; forums 19, attendance 1085; educational cinema 35, attendance 27,471; Xing of Kings 25, attendance 26,285; total functions 98; total att•.idance 59,077; evening courses offered 4, enrollment 77. The School of Oriental Studies Due to the death of Dean Adams in March, no full report of the work of the School of Oriental Studies is available. Mr. Beck has provided a atàtistical summary of the year to which the President, as Acting Dean, has added his observa-tions. The death of Dr. Adams robbed the School of its only permanent American. Fortunately a strong administrative faculty was available whose members willingly undertook many of the duties formerly carried by the Dean. Mr. Beck was appointed as Secretary of the Faculty and became the actual administrator of the school. Mr. S. A. Morrison of the Church Missionary Society, Dr. E. E. Elder, and the Rev. Willis McGill of the American Mission, undertook the supervision of the language teaching. Thus the program of the year continued without interruption. Prior to Dr. Adams' death, the Administrative Faculty inaugurated careful study of the effectiveness of the present program of language instruction. cuestiires were sent to all former students and, on the basis of their answers, a new curriculum was drawn up. During the past summer a revised syllabus was issued and it is expected that in the coming year the program of Arabic instruction will be considerably diversified. Although the enrollment (109) was slightly less than in some former years, the actual number of lessons given (11,490) was the highest on record. It is inter-esting to note that slightly more than 40 of the students were missionaries -r the highest percentage to be recorded in recent years.
