Smith of the Y.M.C.A., Dr. F. H. Henry of the Vacuum Oil Co., and Dr. Rahmet Bey of the Cairo Police. The following were also invited but sent letters of regret that previous engagements prevented their attendance: Mrs. Khayatt, Dr. J. Morton Howell, Rev. A. A. Tho,ipason, Dr. H. S. Hutchinson, Dr. Faris Nimr, Sheikh Mitry Dewairy. Appendices 2, 1 and 3 show the chief items of discussion. App. 4 is a copy of the program. The recommendations of the Conference for a program for the coming year included the items outlined in App. 3, II, A to F. In addition, the following ,points came out in the discussion. Dr. Watson and Rahmet Bey felt that there would be great value in getting into certain industrial concerns to do educational work among their employees. Mr. Smith urged that the Extension Dept. lead off in the matter of getting cooperation and coordination of activities among the different institutions doing Extension education, such as the Y.M.C.A., the Mission Hospitals, the Government departments, etc. It was felt that we might make special arrangements to have the Customs allow the free entrance of films for educational purposes. Dr. Rahmet Bey favored the opening of night schools for adults, particu-larly for illiterates. He was also enthusiastic about radio educational pro-grams. Regarding sex-education, it was suggested that it would be successful in proportion as people trusted the educator. An attack on the fly evil might easily lead to a general campaign against vermin. Dr. Buchanan heartily favored educational articles in the press. She said the Muktataf would welcome such articles. The meeting adjourned with the suggestion of Dr. Watson that it would be very valuable to have another such conference in the fall. In conclusion, the Director would like to urge the rapid development of the Extension work. On account of the (to Egypt) novel feature of adult education, it is a pioneer and is attracting attention. Because of the possib]e wide out-reach, it serves as a good advertisement to the University as a whole, and will undoubtedly attract students to the other departments. But, most of all, there is the tremendous need of the country for public education, particularly along lines related to public health, sex-education, and national development. For the immediate future we ought to be choosing a doctor educated in public health work, and a social worker with a good knowledge of pedagogy and psychology. These persons should be American missionaries, who could very soon tackle the Arabic language and prepare for lecture work, writing, surveying of social con-ditions and eventually the supervision of sub-departments. Under their direction, an Egyptian staff can rapidly be developed. The Child Welfare Clinic, which will be opened this coming fall as a part of the Extension work, may soon require a trained Public Health Nurse, as the welfare work grows. If funds can be secured these persons ought to be selected and sent to Cairo at the earliest opportunity
