EXPRESSIOr1 OF The Chairman called attention to the fact that Mr. Steele, APPRECIATION Treasurer of the Board, had passed his 84th birthday after TO TREASURER long and faithful service to the University. It was voted that the following expression of appreciation be placed on the Minutes and sent to Mr. Steele: RESOLVED, that we, the members of the Board of Trustees of The American University at Cairo, in recognition of some thirty-three years of devoted service rendered without sting by our Treasurer, Joseph M. Steele, and in gratitude for the privilege of constructive fellowship with him, hereby record our deep appreciation, not only of his faithful performance of the duties of membership and office but also of his unfailing interest in the work of the University and his loyal support and prayers on its behalf, together with the expression of our earnest hope that his health will permit him to continue in this service for many years to come. 70 1 This report, pages 10-12 of the docket, was withheld until the end. of the meeting so that attention might be focussed on the memoranda from Council and recommendations of the Finance and other committees. It was reviewed briefly by Mr. Madison. On motion, this report was accepted, the Chair-man stating that suggestions contained in it should be con-sidered by the Finance and Executive committees. This report, pages 13 and 14, was withheld until immediately after luncheon so that the report of the Finance Committee and memoranda from Council could be discussed early in the meeting. Mr. Kelley read his report in full, together with quotations from his report presented at the special meeting of the Board on September 17th, calling attention particular-ly to the record of receipts and expenditures, accumulating deficits since 1942, etc. On motion, the Field Director's report was accepted. 631. The opinion was expressed that the Christian motivation of the Univer-sity had been over-shadowed in the present meeting, but it was recognized that, although most of the present problems 634.
