MINUTES OF TWENTY-FOURTH ANNUAL MEETING of THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES of THE AMERICAN UNIVERSITY AT CAIRO New York City October 16, 1942 452. ORGANIZATION The twenty-fourth annual meeting of the Board of Trustees of the American University at Cairo was called to order by Chairman John H. MacCracken at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, October 16, 1942, at the University Club in New York City. Dr. James Thayer Ad-dison opened the meeting with prayer. 453. MEMBERS PRESENT I he following Trustees were present: Messrs. J.T. Addi-son, E. E. Calverley, E. M. Craig, V. H. S. Demarest, h. J. Dodds, C. P. Erdman, T. J. Gillespie, Jr., R. W. Harbison, A. B. Lisle, J. H. MacCracken, G. L. Robinson, J. R. Sizoo, S. Thorne, and F. K. Weyerhaeuser; also Messrs. Badeau, Bonn, Lum, McClenahan, Smith, and Vandersall. 454. ABSENCES AND Excuses for absence were presented by Dr. Norton who had EXCUSES to go to the Pacific Coast and found it impossible to at-tend, and Mr. Steele who had several conflicting engage-ments, that made his attendance uncertain. Dr. Hill, althou ;h unable to be present, sent a letter to the Board which is quoted below. 455• LETTER FROM The Chairman read the following letter from the Honorary DR. HILL Chairman, Dr. Wm. Bancroft bill: October 15, 1942. "To the Trustees of the American University at Cairo: "I shall bear you in my thought and prayers at the Annual Meeting of the Board of Trustees tomorrow. It is a great comfort and joy to me that the Board has such a group of faithful and devoted men. "The problems at Cairo remain great and very possibly will become greater, but I am sure Dr. Watson and his staff will do the best they can to meet the difficulties and overcome them.
