(8) Difficulties The most unfortunate thing in our teacher training classes is the deplorable fact that some of our students may be transferred any time to a city or town in Upper Egypt or away in the Delta. In addition to the destruction of what the student builds in one, two or more years with us, in consequence of the transfer, the idea itself makes a teacher think twice before he joins our institution. Fortunately, however, we had but one case of experience of this sort. Last Lecember one of our star students was transferred to Assiut suddenly and without warning. We did our best with the Ministry but our efforts were futile. It is almost as hard to stop the transfer of a teacher as to appoint a person to a new teaching position. (b) Another unfortunate matter is the fact that we are so ab-sorbed in the primary duties of teaching, that such activities as forums, lectures, discussions, and even social gatherings and teas have almost entirely been absent from our midst, so far as the Department of Education is concerned. H. The Journal of Modern Education From the attached full report concerning the Journal we find the following: (1) Number of subscribers of the year 1935-36 is as follows: Egypt 345, Iraq 99, Palestine 75, Syria 23, Hegaz 23, Sudan 12, Transjordania 4, Sumatra 2, Persia 1, Aden 1, U.S.A. 1, the complimentary list 83; total 669. thus the figure shows a gain of 83 subscribers over the previous year. (2) It has been of great interest to us to see the Ministry of Education in Egypt increasing its subscription by 32 copies. (3) It has been of special interest to add to our list of subscribers the Ministry of Education at Mecca (Hegaz) . Thus apart from the Egyptian Govern-ment, we have the following governments as official subscribers, namely, Palestine, Iraq, Hegaz, Sudan, Transjordania, and Aden. Last summer we were able to issue a unique supplement on School Libraries, following the suggestion of the President. This has been a great success and is certainly justified the laborious work it necessitated. One feature worth mentioning about the Journal is the constant and con-tinuous interest taken in it by those engaged in education in Egypt. This interest is best shown by the number of contributors each issue. Inspectors, Headmasters, Professors in the Institute of Pedagogy, and teachers have gener-ously sent to us articles, comillents, and suggestions.
