Division of Extension The report of Mr. Wendell Cleland, Director of this Division, takes up in detail four phases of extension activity: Lecture Courses; Moving Pictures; Child Welfare Center; Literature. A very striking comment in Mr. Cleland's Report is, "Since we introduced the 'Gift of Life' to Cairo, other schools have adopted the cinema and other educational filins have been brought in. However, these two filais ('Science of Life' and 'Gift of Life') remain unique in Egypt." The story of the Child Welfare Center deserves much more than a paragraph. What a concentration of loving and sacrificial service it represents in contribut-ions of time, talent and hard work by Mrs. McClent ha.n and other wives of the Arier-lean community, by four Egyptian doctors giving two hours a week, by those in America who contributed money to meet necessary expenses, and especially by Miss Wright, the head nurse of the Center, who in May contracted diphtheria (perhaps in this very work; it is not known certainly) and passed to her reward. Patients have come not only froirr the section of city in which the Welfr:re Center is located, but in some cases from villages three and four miles distant; their common remark being, "Here is where we find love and kindness, medicine for mind and body." This work however has been embarrassed by lack of expected funds. It has not been budgeted for by the University, but is supported by the wives of the Trustees and other friends as a special undertaking. It hHs been given to the Division of Extension merely for purposes of supervision. Of $1,559.00 expended for the work, only $1,250.00 was received, leaving 8 deficit of $309.00
