This was an enjoyable concert even for those who may not have had two or three children (or grandchildren) performing. . . The Grade 6 Beginning Band were first on the program. 40 of the 50 students enrolled in Grade 6 perform m this band. These students looked so fresh and serious and their performance was delightful. They were followed by the Grade 7 Concert Band. 41 of the 54 students enrolled in Grade 7 perform in this band. The Grade 7 band received ratings of Superior in Concert Bands and Superior in Recital Bands at the Cardston Music Festival. We were then pleased to hear the performances of the Grade 8/9 Concert Band. This band received a rating of Excellent at the Cardston Music Festival and were asked to perform in the Provincial Music Festival in Red Deer competing with 49 Grade 8 bands from throughout the province. There they garnered another Excellent. We were then entertained by the Brass Ensemble consisting of Audrey Tannant, Clayton Strong, Ginger Passey, Matt Ackroyd, and Aaron Silverman. This group received a Superior rating at the Festival. Next on the program was the Symphony Band which consists of students from Grades 10 through 12. This band received a Superior rating at the festival and tied as Best Band. The audience was then favored by several selections performed by the Jazz Band under the direction of Tyler Mandin. These enthusiastic students meet at lunchtime for their practices which certainly paid off as they.received a Superior Rating at the Cardston Music Festival and considerable applause at the concert. Audrey Tannant, accompanied by Janet Hunt favored us with a Trumpet Solo. The evening concluded with the "Spirit of Alberta" Band and Color Guard performing "Drunken Sailor and a condensed version of their now famous number "Maple Leaf Forever". SOUTHERN AGRI-SERVICE LTD. The luncheons will be discontinued for the summer. Watch for news of the July Pot-Luck. Travel News: Our day trip to the Calgary Stampede on July 7th is almost full. There is room for a few more. The price is $60 each. The money is needed at once as the tickets must be paid for now. This includes both afternoon and eveing performances. We are planing a trip to Kalispel and Bigfork, Montana. We will travel to Kalispel for our Motel on Friday, August 28th. We will go to the play "Fiddler on the Roof" in Bigfork and return to Kalispel to stay overnight. Then we will return home on Saturday, August 29th. The price of $70 each includes the bus, motel room and the ticket to the play. Book early if you are interested. The High School European Tour presentations will be given this Friday, June 19th at 6 PM in Room 11 at the school. The presentations will last about 1 hour. They stated that they have a major financial crisis on their hands yet again. Right now they have only enough funds left to keep STARS IN THE SKY for another two , months. In response to this appeal, the Auxiliary is donating $200 and challenges other organizations or individuals to meet or better this donation.
