Graduation Banquet and Dance, June 8th. Exams Results During the year the Lethbridge Junior High students' council has accomplished much un­der the leadership of their very capable Pres ident, Frank Loong. Much credit, however should also be given to Vice-Presidents Joyce Johansen, Vaughn Hembroff and Jim Bussard. who pulled through ably when Frank was not in attendance. Another important person in the Students* Council, is the secretary, Bevei- lee Webster, who TRIED to keep a record of everything said at the meetings. Barrie Linn and Jon Tollcstrup as treasurers, held the purse strings. Mr. Watson, Mr. Miller and Miss Haney, were three very important persons in the de­veloping of Student Council work. A Year With Room 27 The first time Mr. Watson was left alone with us, he took one look around and yelled: *Tve been stuck!” Well, it wasn’t quite that bad, but it was almost. We were about the sorriest looking room this school has ever seen. And for the first few months wo really acted like it. Ask any teacher and he would say: “Room 27?—the worst room I've ever taught! Disgraceful!” But in September, this room started show­ing what it had by the winning of tlie Grade 8 Social Studies Scholarship by Rosalind Coren­blum. Following this, the G. C. Paterson medal for the highest marks in the track and field meet was won by Marilyn Cole. The Vice- President and Secretary of the Girls' Club came from this room. If you ask any Room 27 student, though, he'd say we had the best room in the school. We had the best group of teachers and the best home room teacher anyone could ask for. Of course, when Gordon Wallace. Clyde Math- eson and Gary Lewis got together, all was not quiet. Then Sylvia Ncufold got spring fever and couldn't do her work. Wo had fun at tech, too. Margie Oveson was the first person to finish her apron. If you haven’t tasted Alda Anderson's Swiss steak, Arlene Jackson’s mashed potatoes, and Melba Carpenter's prune-whip — you don't know what you're missing. (Maybe it's better that way). We had quite a few sportsmen in tin? room. Unfortunately, Elmer Nyrose broke his ankle at tumbling club and was forced to miss part of the school year. Stewart Cameron was really marvelous at the spring-board. The room had also many fine basketball players such as Shirley Fleming, Gerry Millus and Valerie Masson. Joan Martin was the girl to watch doing those fish-flops. Then, after Christmas an amazing thing happened. Room 27 REFORMED! Yes. strange as it may seem, this yowling, blood­thirsty mob turned over a new leaf. No long­er did a teacher have to wear ear-plugs while trying to tench us. No longer did Mr. Wnt- son have heart-failure after trying to teach Rosalind Corerblum why two triangles are congruent. No longer did Gary Haywood wander around in a doze, singing Ixmis Arm­strong melodies. It was wonderful. Then came festival time and our long-suf­fering music teacher decided to enter us in the festival. After great debate our erstwhile conductor, “Lovable” Marion McKendry was chosen as our leader (and what a leader) while Joan Fisher, the science shark, was chosen to accompany us. What a team! New talent was discovered. David Paterson and Bob Hol­land developed into soulful tenors, while Ralph Redding’s voice was of a deeper quality. What a talent hunt could do here! Yes, we were terrific! We had many different people in our room. After all the stu­dents were assigned to rooms we took stock of Room 29. Thirteen girls and nineteen boys were grouped together to make up what prov­ed to be a first-class room. Tim Myers, who was chosen room repre­sentative, did on excellent job. Harold Cow­ard did likewise, as representative for us on the school paper. Are wo sports-minded? The large number of Room 29 students who have participated in basketball, hockey, baseball and the track meet, is proof of that. One of our best achievements this year was our contribution to the assembly. The fashion show that we presented was greatly enjoyed and was the only one of its kind put on by boys. We arc also proud of honors won by Room 29 students in the poster contest illustrating “Pedestrian Safety". Room 29 is noted not only for its friendli­ness and sense of humour, but also for its room teacher, Mr. McKenzie, who is one of the bright spots in the room. He has been grand to us all year round. Room 29 wishes to express its thanks to all the teachers who endured us this year. Thanks, from the bottom of our hearts! A Toast to the School Board and Administrators By Joyce Johansen And so we have gathered, all graduate.* heto, In a spirit of laughter, fun and good cheer. Perhaps, with a tear we arc saying goodbye, For we’ll treasure this year at the first Jr. High.. There are names we'll remember for making this so. Both school board and administrators hove helped us to grow. Mr. Paterson, the chairman, a well-known man, Has guided us through, according to plan. Mr. Wilson, Mrs. Glover, Mr. Anderson and Mr. Barrett, Our appreciation for their work certainly do merit. Superintendent. Mr. Watson, and Mr. Bussard, assistant. Have led us well through labors consistent; And last but not least, we come to the man. Who with his black book encouraged their plans, To the School Board he's a worker, to us he’s a pal. His fairness is proven to each guy and gal. Space will not permit us to tell of all the wonderful qualities this room possesses. No other class in the school can claim so many school lenders, award winners and fun-loving friends. All members of the class hold a deep re­spect for their own room-mates, their swell teacher, and a grand staff. Our memories will never lose sight of the fun (ns well as the work) that went to make this an unfor­gettable year. And so. with regret of leaving, we face the future with a new challenge. A Year with Room 24 Room 24 was made up of one of those com­binations where everyone worked together as a team. Because of this. Room 24 contribu­ted much to the glory, during 1950-51, of the first year of the Junior High School and to the room itself. In athletic accomplishments, Shirley Ser­vice come second in all the school in the track meet, which was held in the fall. In basketball, several of the boys played in the Senior A team during exhibition games, while the rest of the boys ployed in the Senior B league, with the onvirble record of winning every game they played. Room 24 led the way in drama, by putting on the very successful ploy "In An Airplane Station”. This play was shown for two nights and it wos at this time Room 24 show­ed they were also good salesmen by selling more tickets, for this concert, than any other room in the school. At the Knights of Pythias Public Speaking Contest, Margaret Wallace placed first with Maurice Cohen coming second. These same two people helped represent the Junior High. School against St. Joseph's in a radio quiz program, carrying away the honors in this al­so. Dale Bodard did our room honor by winning second place in the United Nations essay con­test. In musical accompishments our room also helped show the way by taking their part in the senior chorus which won the Edwards Cup at the musical festival (under direction of Miss Kunst). There is no space to mention the contribu­tions of all the students of Room 24 but we must not forget June Wilkinson's gum chew­ing, Hutch Shandro's tenor voice, Betty De- war's brown eyes, Blair Jones' southern (sud­den) accent in the negro role in the above- mentioned play, and Rose Carlson who be­lieves in looking over the field before hook­ing one (boy). Altogether, Room 24 consists of a group of earnest, good-spirited students, working all out for their school and they will be a credit to senior high school in the coming year, and to society in the years to follow. A YEAR WITH ROOM 27 (Continued from Page Three) golden blonde. Bernard Klein had the most expressive eyes while George I-ightbound had the cutest hair-cut of the year. Mona Peder­sen of the natural curly hair and petite Mari­lyn Unsworth were inseparable friends, as were Elizabeth Niven of quiet manners (but when she got going) and Eleanor Jongkind, who made quite a hit with Wilfred W. Wolfmun, who moved here in the middle of the year. Spirit in this room was also excellent. If the next Prime Minister of Canada comes from Room 27, it will surprise no one. If you could hear Bob Clurke vigorously fighting for his ideas against Marilyn Richards and Ken Christenson, you would understand. There is a famous expression which says: "They passed on—leaving a glorious heritage.*’ Thus it was in Room 27. Ed Schwartz—A spry young Englishman, is our Ed. He's got alter and (h)alter mixed up in his head. Malcolm Patterson impersonated Patti Paige Isn't he starting out young for his age? LaVerne Ingnrfield has nimble feet; At dancing the Charleston, everyone she'll beat. Lydean Peterson has shining black hair, After every look comes running a pair. Pat Baynham—From Winnipeg hails our ath­letic Pat She is a whiz with a baseball bat. Carl Johansen is the brain of the mob. He gets H after H while we sit and sob. Edwin Orr. with the brusheut is known as "Snore”; With this information need we say much more? Hazel Hammer—A nurse some day our Hazel will be. You just wait and you will see. Joan Carpenter—Joan, our singer, is always happy and gay; Is it birdseed (in her porridge) that makes her that way? Bus Terry is a friend of Clarke's, When mad at Herb he really barks. Virginia Noilly has short, curly hair— A gal like Virginia is very rare. Jolnne Nagy is small and petite. When she dresses—she really looks neat! Shirley Urban—Now what interests Shirley in Room Twenty? Boy! From what I hear—there’s plenty! Sonia Wickstrom's first name is Doreen; At making boys mad, she really is keen. Ron Wilson is a hoy who likes blue .black ink; To finish this off I'd like a new mink. Allan Duncombe—Cardston has sent us this ^ young man; Take note: Send us more of them if you can! Arlie Hebert in typing is really a pest; Between him and "Snore’', I wonder who's best? Ruth Nichols is a quiet one. you will agree. But when she goes out, she goes on a spree! Beatrice Chalmers has beautiful black curly hair; Then the boys, they really do stare. Bill Hasagawa's mastery is writing essays? And I hear he’s good at running relays! Anno Hope lives out by the exhibition grounds When the fair comes, she goes by leaps and bounds (over the fence). Lorrnino Lewis is known as "Lorry”; If you know her you won’t .be sorry. Stan Yip—Wrestling and boxing are in his line. And every day ho makes a bee-line (for the door). Bev. Murphy is a redhead who's not so shy. Every day she likes some other guy. Gary Nitz—Our Gary is not very toll, But over him the girls do fall. Mr. Gordon is very handsome and tall. And he is seldom known to get angry at all!
