The president's message has always been regarded as the high ight of the yearbook, and this year’s message is no exception I just know that every year as soon as you pick up your Spotlite, you flip madly to this page so you can savour ponder, and enjoy the profound, innovative, unique, and bold address that will stimulate your brain cells and enlighten your outlook on the future. So, here it is, rewritten, refashioned, disguised, but stil the same crock, my personal statement of truth' Hope you had a good year If you didn’t it’s because you didn’t try to involve yourself If you're leaving, good uck in your future en­deavors. If you’re coming back, make the best of your remaining time. And, above all, be who you are, do what you do, like what you do, and don’t hurt nobody. By representing L.C.I , I have had a great opportunity to get really involved in our school, and to meet new people. As each of us graduates and leaves L.C.I. behind, we must choose what courses we are to take in life and we must strive towards achieving our own personal goals. Though we go our own separate ways, we will all remember the times we have shared both the good and the bad. Of the group five were chosen to represent the L.C.I in Calgary’s CBC studios. This was a lot of fun too, even when Danny fell out of his chair while filming. However the cameras weren't on him, and everyone falls out of a chair once in a while right? The visit was successful, and we made it to the semifinals, thanks to our coaches Mrs. MacLeod, and Mr Penner Thank you very much for a great Reach For the Top season. Film Club The film club was first organized at the beginning of the year with no specific membership or boad of directors, etc. At the time it only produced ten to twenty minute features, mainly old classics. By the time the second semester rolled around, so did we. Now we have brought quite a few full- length features and have been quite successful. The film club is now in high gear and has planned several film showings for the fall '81 All in all, I would say we had a rather successful year, and I am looking forward to a very suc­cessful season. From April 15-26, approximately thirty students will travel to Spain, Morocco (Tangiers) and England (Lon­don). Our cultural experience begins in the Castilian city of Madrid, where we will see the paintings of Goya in the Prado Museum, the Don Quixote Monument in the Plaza de Espana and the Royal Palace of King Do Juan. We will visit the historic cities of Toledo, Granada, Cordoba, Mijas and Torrimolinos. During our stay in Torremolinos, we will have a full-day guided tour of Tangiers, Morocco in North Africa. We will also spend a dull day in London before our return to Canada. “Viva Espana.” Preliminaries to the trip are: reports, lectures, films, a slide show and Spanish lessons. C.I.A. stands for Christians in Action. We meet once a week at noon to sing and to have Bible studies and discussions. We have also gone for a weekend retreat in Banff, helped with several school activities, and met for social events like suppers, carolling, and a happy ride. As a part of the Inter-Varsity Christian Fellowship, our purposes are to provide fellowship for Christian students, to serve the school in various ways, and to share God’s love with the other students in L.C.I. Key Club is a club that was formed with the ideals of building the youth of today into the leaders of the future. It is a club of opportunity and excitement. This year has been a rough one for membership, but we believe that the coming year will bring new prospects into our ranks. I personally hope that more students, in all the grades, will take an interest in the club for it offers travel, friendship, and guidance. This year’s District Convention is in New Orleans. They par­ticipated in the Rotary Festival and sang for CFAC television at Christmas Time. In addition, Choral will be participating in the Kiwanis Festival in March. Also planned is an exchange trip to Berkley, California which should prove a new and exciting opportunity for the choir. It is a question that has been asked often by the uninformed members of our student body. You know who we are? We're the ones you see in the halls and at the games wearing our LCI ROWDIES jerseys. We’re underneath the “Sam the Ram" costume at football and basketball games, and we're the ones behind the scenes at all the Pep Rallys. We’re responsible for all the posters in the halls, promoting dances, spirit days, tour­naments and encouraging our teams on to victory. Our Torch Light Parade was the highlight of the year, as we cruised the strip and over to tne North side, then on to the Stadium to cheer our Rams on the night of their first league football game against Winston Churchill Bulldogs. The Pep Club has kept quite busy this year being involved with the various activities of the school, and we’ve had a lot of fun at the same time. Pep Club 25^FRENCH CLUB Dr. VanderBeek’s French Club became a drama club in the 1980- '81 school year. At the time of writing a French play was being organized for presentation in May. Mondays at noon were incorporated as rehearsal time, and LCI’s patronage of the play was greatly hoped for. Good luck is wished to the French Club in their endeavor. Josh Hawkes, who was a founding member of last year's club, along with Shelley Hironaka com­peted in two tournaments before placing second in the Regional Championships that were again held at the LCI on March 7. The team advanced to the Provincial championships in Calgary with the possibility of Josh's further advancement to the Nationals in Montreal. Mrs. Layton and Mr. Seibert, who are the coaches for the club would also like to express thanks to the students and staff who helped with hosting the Regional Tournament, especially Mr. Umeris who was the statistician. It is hoped that with the success of our first two years in debating, this activity will grow in popularity at the LCI. 27Drama Drama in 1980/81 is not in the form of a club, but the activities planned, and those which have already taken place, are very exciting. Plays coming out of the department include “Plaza Suite” “Nuts, Bolts, and Carnations” (to be put on in the fall), and “A Game. ’ “Plaza Suite,” which is to be shown in February is the closest play coming, and a high L.C.I patronage is hoped for The same is in mind for L.C.I s entry into this year’s Southern Albert High School One Act Play Festivale “A Game.” Regular Drama classes were also extremely successful with some of the finest talent being exhibited. So we invite you all to come out take a look at what the Drama Department is doing. An all new (almost) all grade ten staff took control of the paper. Under Mr Johnston’s advisement the Collegian altered it’s format to that o an arts and satire magazine, which proved to be quite successful^ (Mr. Gnandt replaced Mr. Johnston in February after he hac mysteriously disappeared, never to be heard from again). The '80-'81 Collegian staff thoroughly enjoyed their activitie: this year even if the work was rough and hard as heck (this is a Q rated yearbook, y’know). It’s not easy consistently keeping thj Collegian office a fire hazzard, annoying the yearbook staff 2. hours a day, and ... uh ... oh yeah, producing a magazine. It seems as though we have accomplished so much in these years. But in comparison to the rest of our lives, there is so much more to attain. Our years here at LCI have provided us with a good foundation; a stepping stone which we may use to reach our goals. The world offers us many alternatives and opportunities and the experience we have gained in LCI will help us in making our choices. Although we may think that we are not ready for the responsibility of making such decisions, we must consider them a challenge and face them with confidence and determination. As John A.
