From text: The need for a formal-equivalent Afrikaans Bible has been expressed in some circles in South Africa for many years. Among other things, this need prompted the interdenominational committee of churches that use the Bible in Afrikaans (The Church Advisory Committee: Afrikaans Translations) to request the Bible Society of South Africa (BSSA) to arrange a symposium on recent developments in translation studies and Bible translation that may be relevant to Bible translation in South Africa.
