Mr. Simpson was born in 1931 in Caledonia, Mississippi. He first came to Mississippi State as a student in 1949, and continued his scholarly endeavors here, receiving a Bachelor\u27s degree in 1953. Simpson completed his Master\u27s degree at Virginia Tech. He also completed coursework toward a PhD at Oklahoma State. He is a Korean War Veteran. He began working at MSU in 1958, and held the positions of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, Full Professor, and Interim Department Head, all within the Department of Agricultural Economics.
