MINUTES OF THE COUNCIL 1493. 1494. 1495. 1496. 1497. 1498. PRESENT :- Mar oil 23,1935. Dr. Watson, presiding, Dr. McClenahan, Mr.Cleland, and Mr. Galt. MINUTES The minutes of the meeting of February 23,1935, were approved. HOSTED ARRANGEMENTS :- It was agreed to rent the students* hostel! for the year 1935-36 at £l00 plus the payment of taxes as in the past year provided the Bishop is willing to allow us this rate. in addition, we will offer to share with the Bishop in any unei^eoted advantage from our financial administration of the Hostel next year based upon a ratio of 2; 3 as between the Bishop and the University in view of the concessions of the Bishop and the special grant made by the Trustees both of which would be renewable for 1935-36. EXTENSION OF Mr. GIBBONS' CONTRACT in view of the necessity of having present in the college staff an experienced man during Mr. Howard's furlough (1936-37) it was agreed, upon the recommendation of Mr. Galt, that Mr. Gibbons* contract be extended for two years. This will include the school year 1935-36, during which he shall prepare himself specifically to substitute for Mr. Howard, and 1936-37. The cash salary was fixed at £160 per year for this two-year period. SPECIAL ARRANGEMENT FOR Mr. W0ERTEN3ERGER :- On the recommendation of Dr. watson, it was agreed that Mr. Wuertenberger should he allowed to bring his younger brother to Cairo for the school year 1935-36. in order to relieve the heavy pressure upon Mr. Wuertenberger, his brother will assist him in the administration of the hostel dining hall and in athletics. It is understood that his brother will be a full-time student in the College of approximately FORM YI standing for which Mr. Wuertenberger will pay full college tuition; he will room with Mr. Wuertenberger without extra charge; and he shall receive for his work in connection with the hostel dining room a credit of £12.50 toward his food expenses in the hostel. He shall pay for his food In the hostel the normal cost as worked out by the Bursar’s office which for the present year is approximately £13.50 . DAW No.40 Dr. Watson presented to the Council a statement regarding the new Egyptian Daw No.40 governing private schools. While the law was prepared ostensibly for Egyptian private schools, yet, because our Government course receives grant-in-aid, the Ministry has requested us to comply with it. Since such a compliance would he a violation of the capitulatory rights, the American Legation would not favor it
