Li C • fo a MINUTES OP COUNCIL December 6, 1952 9* 00 a.m # 34-15 - PRESENT: Dr, Badeau, presiding; Messrs, Beck, Howard, Rizk, Vandersall, Yasin, and Dr, Joseph Van Vleck (by invitation)• Dr, Badeau opened the meeting with prayer. 34-16 - MINUTES; The minutes of the meeting of November 1, 1952 - #34-05 to 34-14- - were approved. 314-17 - UNIVERSITY ADMINISTRATION: In reference to Minute #34-09, Mr. Hanna Rizk presented a Suggested Plan for the Internal Organization of the Division of Extension,” a copy of which is filed. After brief discussion, the heads of other Faculties were requested to prepare similar studies for presentation at the next stated meeting of Council. 3I4.I8 - TRUSTEES’ ANNUAL MEET INC: In the absence of the official min- utes of the Trustees’ Annual Meeting held in New York on November 7, 1952, the President read excerpts from the resume sent by Mr. Madison under date of November 21. Among the actions taken at the meeting were the approval for the increased cost of the new hostel building, and the appointment of a special committee to re-study the University’s program and objectives. 3^-19 ” HOSTEL DEDICATION: Dr. Howar'd gave a progress report on plans for the hostel dedication on January 13, 1953* His committee suggests the time as 4.:00 p.m., the place the west end of the athletic field adjacent to the new building. The program will include an introduction by the President explaining Dr. Hill’s relation to the University, and a principal address by Dr. Horton. Trips through the new building under student guides are planned, and also a tea in Oriental Hall after the ceremony for distinguished guests. 34-20 - EV0N HABIB LAW SUIT: The President reported that for the first time in the history of the University a student has taken to the law courts an academic decision of the administration. Miss Evon Habib, a student in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, was refused enrollment for the fall term of 1952 after an unsatisfactory academic record and repeated advice to withdraw voluntarily. The Ministry of Education, on her complaint, investigated the case but completely exonerated the University. Miss Habib is now seeking to compel the University to re-enroll her by court order. The lawyer has the case in hand. In the light of this experience, all Faculties were requested by the President to review their statements of enrollment conditions and administrative authority as appearing on the application forms and in the handbook
