Appendix to Page 202 (19) personally that this series of international affairs will oompel him to attend our Friday Program every week no matter how busy he would be, and believe it or not Dr. Salah Uddin Pacha has presided on seven lectures and have attended another three in one semester only. The presence of the Minister of Foreign Affairs these many times gave prestige to the topics treated, and was a oompli-ment to the lecturers. In an editorial under the topic of "New Tradition" in Al Zaman newspaper of May 1st, 1951, the editor in chief praised highly what the Minister of Foreign Affairs is doing every week when as a chairman he introduces with a short speeoh national and international topics, and many times answers questions coming from the floor. This, the editor said, is what politicians in progressive democratic oountries are doing, and should be done in Egypt not only by Salah Uddin Pacha but by every other Minister, so that public opinion would be enlighted on matters of vital importance. One of our lecturers commented on this keen interest of Dr. Salah Uddin Pacha, by saying "that the Minister of Foreign Affairs has been employed by Dr. Badeau in the Division of Extension". When Nashat Pacha on April 6th, declared in his lecture that Egypt should join the Atlantic pact, Dr. Salah Uddin Pacha the chairman that evening was at that time negotiating with Great Britain on what has become of the 1936 treaty. For ten days the Minister of Foreign Affairs had to explain for the Parliament, for the Radio people and for the Press that Nashat Pacha is free to suggest what-ever he likes, and that the lecturer does not express the opinion of the chair-man. Well, Egyptian Politics may be made some day in Ewart Hall. 2. The For Program: During the summer of last year, when I helped in the broadcasting program of "The Social Security Plan of Egypt", I discovered that this subject is new even to the officials who are handling it, so I thought that it is the Division of Extension's duty to present the necessary materials to public opinion in this field, specially when the project will function as early as February 1951. Therefore, the Forums program treated the Social Security Plans as practiced in the USA, and in Europe as an introduotion to a full month program on applying Social Security Plan in Egypt (See Appendix II in file). In this later part of the program the lecturers were the same officials who drafted the Plan-Laws and who were to apply it and supervise its execution. The questions and dis-cussions, which followed each Forum were highly appreciated by the Ministry of Social Affairs which was willing to make several changes in the Plan Laws accord-ingly. The Book Exhibit made it possible for the Audience to discover the literature treating such a new and important topic. The lectures manuscripts have become references in the training classes organized by the Ministry for the staff who is sponsoring the execution of the Plan inthe Provinces. I felt from hearing the comments made by several officials that our contribution to the ex-plaining of such a new social device was highly appreciated. In the second term the general topic of the Forum program was "Youth of Today and Egypt of Tomorrow", when three organizations joined in presenting fourteen topics namely, "The Egyptian Union For Child Welfare", "The Union of The Delinquent Social Studies" and "Al Roward". The great rush on attending these Forums showed the interest of the audience in such topics, and the cooperation of these three organizations has supported our program with absolutely new elements of both lectures and audience.
