Appendix to Page 202 (18) Another two leoturers, namely Dr. Afifi Pacha and Dr. Marghy, have printed their lectures in full, in two very elaborate booklets for distribu-tion. Also the monthly magazine of the coops Dept. issued a special number for the lecture of Abdel Latif Bey Amer on Cooperatives and was widely distri-buted. And through these means the public opinion outside the premises of the University Halls was approached by air, by the press and by printed booklets to share with the Extension Audience the topics of the hour the program presented. 4. Book Exhibits A serious attempt was made throughout this last year to provide for the Public Lecture and Forum Series a set of book exhibits amounted to the number of thirteen, and related to the various topics under discussion. The cooperation of the A.U.C. library, the American Embassy Library, as well as Egyptian Libraries and book shops, were enlisted. The purpose of these exhibits was to offer in tangible form Arabic and English materials available in Cairo for further study on the part of interested members of the audiences. In addition, we periodically had mimeographed a bibliography of these materials. Four such bibliographies were prepared and distributed to the audiences. The results from such a service are by nature difficult to estimate but we received favorable comment and we believe that it should be a standard element in the Lecture - Forum Series. endixes indicating the nature of this year program and the number of people attended are in the file. Here are some comments on each: 1. The Leotures Programs It was in December 1950 that the Second Social Seminar for the Arab States was held in Cairo to discuss the general topic of "The Social Reform in Rural Areas of the Arab World", when our lectures program presented an Egyptian application of the seminar topic namely "Social Reform in Rural Egypt" using seminar speakers. The idea was praised and recommended by Dr. Ahmed Hussein Pacha, the Minister of Social Affairs who was to open the lecture season in Ewart Hall if not his trip to Europe had delayed him to be in time. In'the advisory Board meeting, Dr. Ahmed Pacha took great care and interest in select-ing the lecturers, that when the lectures started he was as anxious as any of us to attract the public opinion to it, and so helped us to have the summary of each lecture broadcasted, and gave orders to his Propaganda Section to print the texts of the delivered lectures. The University Council invited the members of the Seminar who came from the seven Arab nations to a tea-reception whe re they met the A.U.C. staff, the Extension lecturers and the University friends. Every one of these members re-oeived a complementary ticket for the Extension lectures and Forums, and many of them have attended and have expressed their admiration to the services our department are rendering to the Arabic speaking world. In the second term it was the turn of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to take interest. The topic of "Egypt Between East and West" was of a very vital importance and treated delicate diplomatic problems of the hour. The lecturers were top and authorative prominent figures in their areas. Egyptian officials, ambassadors, and outstanding diplomats have expressed their personal opinion in Egyptian and International affairs stirring up the radii) commentators and press columnist. The Minister of Foreign Affairs in opening this series of lectures said that he was extremely glad to have suoh topics of importance treated on the "Free" platform of Ewart Hall for better understanding of the world inter-national situation.
