) supports the Liberals. The program also contains the names of high Egyptian officials as well as Russell Pasha, the English Commandant of the Police. In no other organization have such popular and politically opposed leaders cooperate. 2. In all its activities, the Extension Division tries to meet the need of the community. The subjects of lectures are not taken at random, but are carefully selected by the Division who also endeavors to get the most author-itative speaker on each subject. Lectures were given this year on health problems, poison gases, the Capitulations, the Egyptian Home, etc., etc., all of which are at present engaging the mind of the educated Egyptian youth. This is not always the case in other organizations. 3. The lectures conducted by the Division of Extension are dealt with on a scientific basis. We emphasize this principle to our lecturers time and again and have always met with a favorable response. Other organizations, due to the nature of their formation, make a propaganda, in their lectures, either in favor of a certain political party, or for a certain religion. Our attitude has gained for us the approval of the people and our platform has been labeled "Freedom of Thought". Our lectures are not intended to entertain but to educate the audience. Criticisms by lecturers of existing conditions sometimes arouse protest among some of the audience, but frequently stimulate thought among the others. This is what happened in the lecture given by Mine. Ruda Sharawi who criticized the institution of polygamy in Egypt. Few Sheikhs shouted against her, while the others supported her. Such a lecture could not be given from any other platform without arousing a storm of criticism. 4. The Regularity of our Programs. The fact that two lectures are given each week on Tuesdays and Fridays all through the school year, develops in the audience the habit of attending them regularly. The other organizations do not hold their meetings regularly. It was noticed that Tuesdays and Fridays were avoided, this year, by other institutions, even those who stuck to them in the past to attract audiences away from the Division of extension. • With these remarks which apply to all our activities, I shall give a short report on each branch of work. A. LECTURES: 1. Extension Lectures: The main function of the Extension Division, this year, in the absence of the Director, has been the lecture programs. Forty-two lectures '*ere given in Arabic to a total number in attendance of l7937, which works out to an average attendance of427 (Details of lecturers, subjects and number in attendance at each lecture are given in Statist-ical Tables Nos.
