Identification of the bearer: Antonio Priuli, doge of Venice (1618-1623)Historical Notice: Venetian patrician house, including three doges of Venice (16th and 17th c.) and a duke of Crete (14th c.). Depicted here is the winged lion, symbol of Saint Mark and crest of Venice, holding the coat-of-arms of Priuli, instead of the usual Bible. It was placed over the entrance of a building inside the fort of S. Salvatore (usually known by its Turkish name of Firkas), by the Venetian provveditore of Chania, Alvise Bragadin, in 1620.
