Identification of the bearer: Member of the Venetian family of CorrerHistorical Notice: Venetian patrician house, including high-ranking political, diplomatic and military personnel of the Republic, a pope of Rome (Gregorius XII, 15th c.), a patriarch of Venice (18th c.) and a famous art collector, founder of the Museo Correr (1830). This particular coat-of-arms, dated 1672 (MDCLXXII), decorates the barrel of a cannon, part of a battery positioned over the sea, at the city of Nafplio. It was probably used during the Turkish�Venetian War of 1684�1699.
