Identification of the bearer: Pietro Mocenigo, doge of Venice (1474-1476)Historical Notice: Venetian patrician house, including seven doges of Venice and six dukes of Crete. This particular coat-of-arms is to be found at the castle of Bourtzi, on the small rocky isle of Agios Theodoros, controlling the golf of Nafplio. It probably belongs to the doge Pietro Mocenigo, since it is during his reign that were completed the works of fortification, started some time earlier, when provveditore of Nafplio was Vettore Pasqualigo (1471-1473). Nafplio was under Venetian rule during two periods, from 1388 to 1540 and from 1686 to 1715.Notes: Photo Leonidas Kallivretakis, 2008Identification of the Coat-of-Arms: MocenigoΤαύτιση φορέα του οικόσημου Piet...
