Commuting in the area of Toulouse : a review of the 19544975 period. The importance of commuting in the area of Toulouse increased ten times more than the growth of the active population and fifteen times more than that of the total population in the town. The main factor of this trend is the growth of the population within the inner and nearby urban fringes which was party caused by out migrations from the urban core itself. But one should not neglect the blow up of the regional area from where commuters come out : this area extends as far as 100 km around Toulouse and though the number of commuters decreases when the journey's distance increases it already reaches Bordeaux and Montpellier as well as smaller and closer towns located along the main transportation axis of the whole South Western Region. At the same time the renewal of the industrial distribution pattern within the urban area and the transfer of various industrial and trade institutions from the inner town to its peripheral fringes has caused a new type of commuting from urban residences to fringe's employments.Entre 1954 et 1975 les migrations de travail en direction de Toulouse ont augmenté dix fois plus que la population active de la ville et quinze fois plus que sa population totale. La croissance de la population de la banlieue proche, en partie par immigration depuis la ville, en est la cause principale, mais on assiste aussi à un élargissement des rayons de recrutement qui, avec une densité décroissante depuis le centre, s'étend à plus de 100 km de la ville et s'étire sur le grand axe du Sud-Ouest de Bordeaux à Montpellier. En outre, le transfert d'établissements toulousains, en banlieue, pendant la même période a entraîné l'apparition de migrations de la ville vers la banlieue.Coppolani Jean.
