Huge water plan wanted at Gutha

Article discussion about restructuring an entire district water catchment area covering 64,000 hectares. A huge undertaking considering waterways having to be rerouted, bridges and drains under roads and railway lines possibly re-sited, even farm fences might have to be repositioned. Farmers at Gutha, just north of Morawa, believe that unless they do it their future viability in the area is seriously threatened. Two bad storms in February were particularly destructive with heavy rain rushed off the drought-hardened ground, washing away roads and fences and leaving behind gouged paddocks and flood low lying areas. The flooding keeps increasing the size of a salt lake which has already spread over 1,600 hectares of once arable land on the two lowest properties.
