Reafforestation of 130 hectares of land in the Wellington Dam catchment area will take place this year as part of a programme designed to control stream salinity. It is part of the reafforestation programme being considered by the Public Works Department which would ultimately reforest 200 square kilometres of cleared catchment. The programme represents 30 per cent of the cleared land and would affect about 60 farmers. The Minister for Works and Water Supplies, Graham MacKinnon said the area to be planted was on the former Stene holding on the Bingham River, now owned by the Public Works Department.
