Article discusses the salinity of Wellington dam to increase over the next few years despite major research to solve the problem. The dam is used for irrigation by dairy farmers and potato growers and also services towns and farms along the southern railway line. Farmers have been warned not to expect spectacular reductions in salinity when research does begin. The Agriculture Department is undertaking a farmer education programme on how to use the water which they stress is not harmful.
